Australia defeated New Zealand by five runs in ODI 27 of the ongoing 2023 World Cup, in Dharamshala on Saturday.
Chasing 389, New Zealand began on a strong note, with openers Devon Conway and Will Young showing good shot selection. Conway and Young eventually departed for 28 and 32 respectively.
Rachin Ravindra was dismissed for 116 for 89 balls and rebuilt the hopes of Black Caps. With 19 needed in the final, James Neesham tried to win the game for New Zealand, but was dismissed in the second last ball.
For the Aussies, Adam Zampa struck thrice, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins two wickets each.
Travis Head and David Warner helped Australia pile a massive 388 on the board after being invited to bat first. he duo dealt in boundaries from the word go and mustered 118/0 at the end of 1st powerplay.
The pair added 175-run for the opening stand before Glenn Phillips got rid of Warner for 81(65). Shortly after he cleaned up Head for 109(67).

However, a blitz by Glenn Maxwell once again shifted the momentum towards Australia and thereafter Pat Cummins and Josh Inglish kept hitting boundaries at will.
