Bhavani Devi defeated Japan's Misaki Emura 15-10 in the quarter-finals to seal her place in the semi-finals. With the win, Bhavani has also assured India's first medal in the Asian Fencing Championships. Bhavani completely dominated the World Champion and didn't give Misaki any chance to make a comeback in the match. Bhavani's performance against Misaki was certainly praiseworthy. Prior to this match, Bhavani had lost all her three matches against Misaki. Misaki had won the women's sabre gold medal at the 2022 World Fencing Championships held in Cairo.

Bhavani's performance in the Asian Fencing Championships has been amazing so far. Earlier, she had beaten Japan's Ozaki Seri 15-11 to make it to the quarterfinals. Seri was part of the team that won the bronze medal at the 2022 World Championships. Although, Bhavani got a bye in the round of 64 after which she defeated Dospe Karina of Kazakhstan in the next round.

In the semi-finals, Bhavani, however, went down 14-15 in a hard-fought match against Uzbekistan's Zaynab Dayibekova but ensured India's first medal at the Asian Fencing Championships.

Earlier, Bhavani Devi's performance in the Tokyo Olympics was also excellent.

Bhavani, who became the first Indian fencer to qualify for the Olympics, had crashed out in the round of 32 match. Though she missed out on winning a medal for the country, her performance was praised all over.

Bhavani Devi is repeatedly coming out of her comfort zone Over the past three months. Fencer Bhavani Devi, who made history at the Tokyo Olympics by becoming the first Indian to compete in the sport at the Games, has won the Charlellville National Competition in France in the individual women's sabre event.

Bhavani Devi starts training under Christian Bauer (Bing)

she stood facing off against another fencer at a gymnastics facility in the French city of Orleans. Later that day, she was asked to dangle off parallel bars at the same gymnasium. A couple of days later, she found herself trying her feet at the Colombian dance form of Zumba

The tasks are part of the unique training methods employed by legendary fencing master Christian Bauer, under whom the Indian will train for the Paris Olympics cycle. Having made history at Tokyo 2020 earlier this year by becoming the first Indian fencer to compete at an Olympics, Bhavani has moved her base from Livorno, where she was training under Nicola Zanotti, to Orleans to train at Bauer's academy.

The Indian Fencer won the first match against  Tunisia's Nadia Ben Azizi 15-3 to move into the Round of 32. She was very brave in her attacks which was the reason to her win.

To the people, unware of the rule, the fencer to get to the first 15 points wins the match. And if both the fencer gets a touch, the fencer who initiates the touch gets the point. This rule is called 'right of way'.

Against Nadia Ben, Bhavani Devi won just in 6 minutes and 14 seconds as she was on the attack with a strong defense. This also did not allow Nadia to get away with "right of way" points.

But against world No. 3 and Rio Olympian Manon Brunet of France, Devi could not get much of a strike. In fact, the world No. 42 had very less attacks against Manon. However, the most of the points were decided in "right of way".

Bhavani Devi lost to Manon Brunet, 7-15 in the round of 16. The sliver medalist from Rio was much superior in experience at a bigger stage.

However, India should be proud of how Bhavani Devi performed in her first Olympic game. In a game that's been in the Olympics since 1896 summer Olympics, India definitely would like to produce more fencer like Bhavani Devi in future.
