Gold Coast Commonwealth Games gold medalist boxer Gaurav Solanki has made it to the last-16 on the second day of the Men's National Boxing Championships 2022 in Hisar on Sunday. At the same time, Mohammad Hussamuddin of the army, who won bronze medal twice in the Commonwealth Games, has also entered the next round with a massive win.

Meanwhile, on Monday, veteran Indian boxer Shiva Thapa, a record six-time Asian medallist, will be representing Assam. He will begin his campaign from the round of 16 as he takes on Jaswinder Singh of Delhi. A total of 386 boxers across 13 different weight categories are participating in the Men's National Boxing Championships 2022.

In the 60kg weight category, Solanki defeated Himachal Pradesh's Navraj Chauhan 5-2 after a hard-fought review. He will now play against Harendra Singh of Madhya Pradesh in the round of 16 on Tuesday. While in the 57kg weight category, Hussamuddin defeated Bulen Buragohain of Assam 5-0. He will take on Mizoram's Lallawmawma in the next round.

On the other hand, Hussamuddin's colleague Biswamitra Chongtham of Sena defeated Odisha's N Madhaba in the 51 weight category. Biswamitra will take on Prabhudas Yadla of Andhra Pradesh in the pre-quarterfinals on Tuesday. 2021 Asian Championships bronze medalist Varinder Singh (60kg), representing the Railway Sports Control Board (RSCB), won against Chandigarh's Rahul. Coming off a resounding 5-0 win, Varinder will step into the ring against SSCB's Ibrahim Mohmmed in a round-of-16 bout on Tuesday.

Ankit Narwal, another RSCB boxer, also pulled off an impressive win against Pondicherry's Arun Kumar in the 63.5kg weight category. The silver medalist from the 2019 Asian Youth Championships will face the winner of the bout between Karan BK of Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh's Ratandeep in the pre-quarters stage on Tuesday.
