Karnataka's DP Manu won gold in the men's javelin throw event of the 62nd National Open Athletics Championships that concluded in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Representing the services team, DP Manu cleared 82.06m in the last day of the National Open Athletics Championships held at Kantheerava Stadium. Apart from that, he also bettered the meet record (81.23m) set by him last year.

Meanwhile, Manu found this distance in his first delivery. He was the only one who crossed the border. On the other hand, Yashvir Singh won the silver medal with a distance of 77.72m. While Vikrant Malik (77.65m) bagged the bronze.

However, Karnataka's Theerthesh Shetty narrowly missed out on winning gold in the men;s 400m race. He finished second in 46.15s. The gold medal in that category went to ONGC's K Avinash ((46.05). Vandana from Karnataka bagged the silver after completing the walking event in 1 hour 40.19 minutes.

Meanwhile, the Railways team gave a remarkable performance in the National Open Athletics Championships and collected a total of 220 points and won the overall championship. Women's category was also won by Railways with 156 points. Services team (175 points) became the champion in men's category.While DP Manu and Yamuna Ladkat bagged the 'Best' Athlete honor in the men's and women's categories respectively.
