World number-1 tennis player Novak Djokovic has been awarded the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award at the at the Laureus Awards 2024 ceremony on Monday. The 25th Laureus Sports Awards Ceremony took place on 22 April in Madrid, Spain. This award was given for the achievements of the last year.

Djokovic equaled Roger Federer's record
In this matter, Djokovic has equaled former tennis player Roger Federer's record. These two players have been honored the most number of times in the history of the Laureus Awards.
Djokovic contested all four major finals in 2023
Djokovic won titles in Australian Open, and French Open last year, while contesting all four major finals with the runner-up finish in Wimbledon. He is also the player with the most title wins in men's singles with 24 Grand Slams.
Aitana Bonmati named Laureus World Sports Women of the Year 2024
Spain's midfielder Aitana Bonmati received the Laureus World Sports Women of the Year 2024 award. Bonamati received the Golden Ball trophy at the FIFA Women's World Cup last year. The Golden Ball is given to the best player of the tournament. While Spain women's football team, which won the Women's Football World Cup for the first time last year, was awarded the Laureus Team Award. Spain defeated England 1-0 in the final.
What is Laureus Awards?
The Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony takes place every year. In this, players and teams are honored with sports achievements throughout the year. It was established in 1999 by Daimler and Richemont, founders of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.
