India's Jyothi Yaraji on Tuesday finished seventh in women's 100m hurdles and failed to qualify for the semi-finals at the World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest, Hungary.

Asian champion, Yarraji clocked 13.05 seconds to finish seventh in her race and 29th in a field of 43. The 23-year-old won the bronze medal at the World University Games earlier this month. She clocked with a national record timing of 12.78 seconds. India's Krishan Kumar also lost in the men's 800m heats. The 25-year-old Asian Championships silver medalist clocked 1:50.36 to finish seventh in the heat. Krishan Kumar's personal best is 1:45.88, achieved at the Asian Championships last month.
Meanwhile, Kendra Harrison of USA topped the heats with a new world-leading time of 12.24s. The last qualifier's time for the World Athletics Championships 2023 semi-finals of the women's 100m hurdles was 12.92s.
24 racers advanced to the World Athletics Championships 2023 semi-finals. In the men's 800m heat, the last qualifier for the semi-finals clocked 1:47.97. While Emmanuel Wanyonyi of Kenya, who won the Paris Diamond League in June, clocked 1:44.92. India's Jinson Johnson, the reigning Asian Games champion, holds the men's 800m national record of 1:45.65 set in Guwahati in 2018.
On the other hand, India's steeplechaser Avinash Sable, men's triple jump national record holder Praveen Chithravel, Commonwealth Games gold medalist triple jumper Eldhose Paul and Asian champion in men's triple jump Abdulla Aboobacker were among the prominent Indian athletes who qualified from the first qualifying round.
Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra will begin his World Athletics Championships 2023 campaign in the men's javelin throw on Friday.
