The world number 7 Indian duo wrote history as the first Indian pair to secure a medal in men's doubles. But the race of the Indian pair stopped in the semi-finals. The Satwik-Chirag duo had to be content with winning the bronze in the BWF World Championships 2022.
Although the fight was fierce. The Indian pair even advanced by winning the first game against the Malaysian pair of Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik. However, the Malaysian pair made a strong comeback in the next two games. Satwik-Chirag tried to fight in the next 2 games but could not prevent defeat. They lost the match 22-20, 18-21, 16-21.
However, the Indian pair had already written history even if they were knocked out of the semi-finals. Satwik-Chirag has the record of becoming India's first men's doubles pair to win a medal at the World Badminton Championships. So this bronze medal is also historic for India. But they regret not being able to reach the final.
This is India's 13th medal at the World Championships. At the same time, India got a medal for the second time in doubles. Earlier in 2011, the women's doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa won a medal at the Badminton World Championships for the first time. And this time Satwik-Chirag won bronze in the world championships.
