Satwiksairaj and Chirag became India's first men's doubles pair to secure a medal at the BWF World Championships 2022. The star Indian duo defeated world champions and world number 2 Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi of Japan 24-22, 15-21, 21-14 to enter the semi-finals.

The world number 7 Indian pair won gold at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games earlier this month. The duo took an hour and 15 minutes to defeat the defending champions. They fought fiercely and with that, India secured a medal in men's doubles for the first time.

This is India's 13th medal at the Badminton World Championship 2022. At the same time, the medal is coming to India for the second time in doubles. Earlier in 2011, the women's doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa won a medal at the Badminton World Championships for the first time. And this time the Satwik-Chirag duo's medal was confirmed in the world championship.

But the fight of the Indian pair was not easy at all. They had the last laugh after fighting hard. Satwik-Chirag had to gain momentum to win the first game. 24-22 won the first game but slipped in the second game, losing 15-21. But they turned around in the third game. The Indian pair reached the semi-finals after winning 21-14.

Earlier, MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila's campaign in men's doubles ended in the quarter-finals. The Indian pair lost to the three-time gold medalist duo of Indonesia's Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan. They lost to the third-seeded Indonesian pair by 8-21, 14-21 in less than 30 minutes.
