BWF World Rankings: PV Sindhu returns to the top 5 for the first time since 2019

Sindhu, the world number two former player, has reclaimed the top five spot in the BWF world rankings after three years

Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and part of the Thomas Cup winning team HS Prannoy jumped one place each in women's and men's singles to 5th and 12th respectively in the BWF world rankings released on Tuesday. She has 87218 points in 26 tournaments. Sindhu, the world number two former player, has reclaimed the top five spot to displace arch-rival Carolina Marin of Spain after three years.

Sindhu has been away from competitive badminton due to a leg injury to her ankle while winning the Commonwealth Games gold medal in August 2022. The Hyderabadi girl resumed training on Monday after recovering from injury.

In men's singles, Prannoy has continued to move up the BWF world rankings after making it to the pre-quarterfinals of the Denmark Open 750 tournament. The 30-year-old Prannoy, who is at the top of the race to Guangzhou rankings, has 64330 points from 26 tournaments. Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen and Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Kidambi Srikanth remained at number 8 and 11 respectively. The men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who won gold at the Birmingham Games, also remained in eighth place.

On the other hand, Arjun and Dhruv Kapila have moved up two places to 19th position in the men's doubles rankings. The women's doubles pair of Trisha Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand and the women's doubles pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto managed to achieve career-best rankings with 27th and 29th positions respectively. While Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy, however, slipped to the 24th spot. Two-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist Saina Nehwal has also lost a place in the women's singles rankings at 33rd position.
