Indonesia Masters badminton: PV Sindhu into the second round

Double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu defeated Thailand's Supanida Katethong in the second round of the Indonesia Masters badminton event.

Double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu defeated Thailand's Supanida Katethong in the second round of the women's singles event. The event took place at the Indonesia Masters badminton 2021, in Bali on Tuesday.

PV Sindhu how was the mainstay of the French Open Semifinal, won her match 21-15, 21-19.

She started well against the world No. 33 Supanida Katethong in the round of 32. She raced to an 11-5 lead. After the mid-game interval, the Thai shuttler fought back and clawed the score back to 16-13.

Women's world champion Sindhu, however, was successful to close out the first game from 21-15.

Compared to the first game the second one was more challenging for her. Supanida Katethong left no chance for any one point at the Indonesia Masters Badminton . The Indian ace needed to be on her toes in order to edge it 21-19.

Sindhu will face world No. 47 Clara Azurmendi of Spain in the round of 16. Although Azurmendi beat Indonesia's Fitriani Fitriani 21-18, 21-14 in her first-round clash.

In women's doubles, however, Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy pulled off a thrilling 9-21, 21-11, 21-18 win over Denmark's Alexandra Boje and Mette Poulsen to progress in the competition.
