In a thrilling start to the Indonesia Open 2023 badminton tournament, Indian shuttlers H.S. Prannoy and P.V. Sindhu showcased their skills and determination, advancing to the second round on the opening day of the prestigious tournament at the Istora Senayan sports complex in Jakarta on Tuesday.

H.S. Prannoythe, the Malaysia Masters champion, delivered a stunning performance to beat Kenta Nishimoto of Japan in straight games 21-16, 21-14 in the Indonesia Open 2023 men's singles category which lasted for 50 minutes. The 30-year-old Indian shuttler will face NG Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong in the second round on Wednesday.
At the same time, P.V. Sindhu, who has been having a rough time on the court on the last few months having suffered first-round exits in the Singapore Open and Thailand Open, asserted her dominance on the court over Gregoria Mariska Tunjung of Indonesia 21-19, 21-15 in the women's singles category. Sindhu will take on Taiwanese player Tai Tzu-ying in the Indonesia Open 2023 round of 16 match on Wednesday.
However, India's women's doubles duo of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand made a first-round exit after they went down fighting against Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi of Japan in the opening round of the Indonesia Open 2023. Treesa-Gayatri conceded a game lead to lose the match 22-20, 12-21, 16-21 in an hour and 12 minutes. It was their fourth straight first-round exit in 2023 since they made a third-place finish at the All England Open in March.

Later today, in men's doubles, two Indian combinations will be playing today. M.R. Arjun-Dhruv Kapila will face eighth seed Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi of Malaysia. While Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty, the seventh seed, will be up against France's Popov brothers - Christo and Toma Junior.
