The world No. 7, PV Sindhu has qualified for the second round after defeating Belgium's world No. 36 Lianne Tan in the first round of the Singapore Open 2022, Wednesday. While Kidambi Srikanth has bowed to lower-ranked Mithun Manjunath.

The two-time Olympic medalist, PV Sindhu has dismissed Lianne Tan of Belgium by 21-15, 21-11 and won the women's singles match in 29 minutes. Sindhu took some time to settle into the match. In the first round, the scores were tied at 7-all. After that, the gold medalist has found her footing and started to dominate the match. Sindhu will face world No. 59 Thuy Linh Nguyen of Vietnam in the Singapore Open 2022 on Thursday.

On the other hand, Kidambi Srikanth has faced a shocking defeat against his lower-ranked competitor Mithun Manjunath. Srikanth lost by  21-17, 15-21, 21-18 and didn't qualify for the second round. The world No. 11 looked rusty and conceded the first game. In the second game, he took charge and stretch the match into a decider. Anyway, in the end, the world No. 77 Mithun Manjunath came from being 15-16 down in the third game to go on. He win the match in exactly one hour.

HS Prannoy has also defeated Thailand's Sitthikom Thammasin by 21-13 21-16. The world No. 19 will face next world No. 4 Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in the second round of BWF Super 500 badminton tournament.

Former Commonwealth Games champion Parupalli Kashyap lost to fifth seed Jonatan Christie of Indonesia 21-14, 21-15. Saina Nehwal also won against Malvika Bansod by 21-18 21-14 score and make it to the second round.
