Indian shuttler Sameer Verma has won gold in the Slovenia Open Badminton Tournament being held in Maribor, Slovenia. In the men's singles final, he beat Taiwan's Su Li Yang in straight sets 21-18 21-14.

Sameer has achieved the international title after almost five years. Sameer ranked 57 in the world, defeated qualifier Huang Yukai of Taipei, ranked 141 in the world, 21-14, 17-21, 21-15 in the semi-finals to make it to the Slovenia Open Badminton final. Having won three World Tour Super titles in 2018, Sameer is satisfied with his international achievement. Moreover, he has won this sixth International Challenge/Series title. In the year 2015, won three titles while playing four finals. This is Verma's second international title in Europe. Prior to this, in 2018, he had won the Open Super 300 event.
Similarly, India's Rohan Kapoor-Sikki Reddy pair won the silver medal in the Slovenia Open Badminton mixed doubles category. The pair beat Denmark's Mads Vestergaard and Christine Busch 21-15 21-19 in the semi-finals to advance to the final. But lost 12-21 13-21 to another pair from Denmark Jesper Toft and Clara Gravesen in the final.

These players performed brilliantly on the international stage. They are being described as future star players.
