In the pre-quarterfinal match of the Taipei Open 2023 held today at the Tian-Mu Arena, Prannoy beat world No. 95 Sugiarto 21-9, 21-17 displaying his agility and mental fortitude throughout the game. Prannoy will now face Hong Kong's Ng Ka Long Angus in the Taipei Open 2023 quarterfinals.

The third-seeded HS Prannoy started strong and raced to a 15-5 lead in the opening game. The Indian badminton player kept firm control of the contest and won the first game with ease. The second game saw Prannoy trail Tommy Sugiarto 10-3 early on. However, the Indian bounced back to draw level. With the scores tied at 15-all, HS Prannoy upped his game and beat the Chinese Taipei shuttler in 36 minutes.

Former Commonwealth Games medalist Parupalli Kashyap, however, lost to local player Su Li Yang by 21-16, 21-17. Parupalli Kashyap and Su Li Yang went toe-to-toe early on but the Chinese Taipei shuttler won seven consecutive points to lead 14-8 and then dominated to win the opening game. The second game, too, was a closely-fought affair early on. However, as the game progressed, Parupalli Kashyap failed to match Su Li Yang's intensity and lost the 42-minute-long affair.

Meanwhile, in mixed doubles, Rohan Kapoor and N Sikki Reddy were defeated by Chinese Taipei's Chiu Hsiang Chieh and Lin Xiao Min 21-13, 21-18.
