Chennai Super Kings' star Ambati Rayudu announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League on Sunday. He confirmed that the final of the 2023 edition against Gujarat Titans will be his last match in the tournament. Rayudu has been part of the CSK since 2018 and won two titles with the franchise. He began his IPL career with Mumbai Indians in 2010.

I have decided that tonight's final is going to be my last game in the Ipl. I truly have enjoyed playing in this great tournament. Thank u all. No u-turn," Rayudu wrote on his official Twitter account.

IPL Career of Ambati Rayudu:

Rayudu lifted the title with Mumbai Indians in 2013 as it was also the first title for the franchise. The batter played all the matches in the season. He went on to win two more titles in 2015 and 2017 before moving to CSK the next year.

Ambati Rayudu found himself as a power-hitter under MS Dhoni. He played in different situations during his tenure at CSK. He scored at a strike rate of 149.75 during his debut season with the CSK when the side lifted the title in 2018. Rayudu scored 602 runs in 16 matches for the side. He was part of the winning team in 2021 as well, which saw Rayudu hitting a strike rate of 151.17 in 16 matches.

The previous year was a forgettable one for both, Rayudu and CSK. The Super Kings finished 9th in the table and the veteran India batter had also announced his retirement mid-way through the season. However, he backtracked from the statement and continued to represent the side. Rayudu is also among the select few players in the tournament's history to have appeared in 200 or more games. With 4239 runs in the league, he is currently the 12th-highest run-getter in the league.

The Indian cricket team, captained by Suryakumar Yadav, has started its campaign in Asia Cup 2025 in a bang. Team India registered its first win by defeating UAE by 9 wickets in the match played in Dubai.

Bowling first, Team India bundled out UAE for just 57 runs in 13.1 overs thanks to Kuldeep Yadav's charismatic bowling and achieved the target of 58 runs in 4.3 overs with 9 wickets and 93 balls to spare.

Chasing a massive 194, Hong Kong never got going as Shadab dismantled their batting order. The leg-spinner's googly proved unplayable as Hong Kong were folded for just 38 in 10.4 overs. 2. Kuldeep Yadav | 4/7 vs UAE (2025)

Playing his first match for India after half a year, Kuldeep Yadav returned figures of 4/7 to lead holders India to a crushing nine-wicket win over hosts UAE in their opening match of the Asia Cup.

Kuldeep was introduced in the seventh over. The wrist-spinner hammered UAE in the next over, dismissing Rahul Chopra, Muhammad Waseem, and Harshit Kaushik. Kuldeep then finished the UAE innings by dismissing Haider Ali. The spinner's 4/7 saw him get to 73 wickets in T20Is from 41 matches. This was his second four-fer in T20Is. He also owns two five-wicket hauls.

1. Bhuvneshwar Kumar | 5/4 vs Afghanistan (2022)

Veteran Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar leads the list of best bowling figures in Asia Cup T20I, who was unplayable against Afghanistan in the 2022 Asia Cup match in Dubai. Bhuvi is the only bowler to take five wickets in an innings in the Asia Cup played in T20 format. He also holds the record of the highest wicket in the Asia Cup played in T20I format.

India batted first and posted a mammoth 212/2. However, it was Bhuvneshwar who stole the show with his fiery bowling display. He took four wickets in the Powerplay and ended up with career-best figures of 5/4 in four overs.

India have been the most successful team in the history of Asia Cup, having won the continental tournament as many as eight times (seven in ODI format, one in T20I format), since the inception of tournament in 1984. It was a superlative effort from the bowling unit of India that saw them shot out Pakistan for a paltry 162 in 43.1 overs before Rohit Sharma (52 off 39 balls) and Shikhat Dhawan (46 off 54 balls) added 86 for the opening wicket to ensure a smooth chase for the ‘Men In Blue’ in only 29 overs.

David Warner’s explosive starts at the top are something SRH fans will never forget. Warner’s meteoric rise in the IPL began with his exploits in the 2016 season, when he guided the team to the final and helped them win their first IPL trophy. Warner scored nine half-centuries in the event, averaging more than 60. He had his greatest season with the bat, scoring 848 runs in 17 matches.

Despite scoring a staggering 848 runs, Warner finished as the second-highest run-scorer in 2016 as Kohli's 973 runs trumped him.

3. Jos Buttler (2022) | 863 Runs

Jos Buttler has been a consistent performer for Rajasthan Royals ever since he signed for the team before the Indian Premier League 2018 season.

In 2022, the Englishman went on a scoring spree, notching up four hundreds and as many fifties for his tally of 863 runs that won him the Orange Cap, awarded to the leading run-scorer in IPL each season. He averaged 57.53 from 17 matches that season scoring runs at a healthy strike rate of 149.05, taking the Royals to their first final after the inaugural edition in 2008.

2. Shubman Gill (2023) | 890 Runs

Gujarat Titans talisman took his batsmanship to astronomical heights in the 2023 edition of the IPL. Shubman Gill delivered consistent batting performances throughout the season to amass a staggering 890 runs in 17 matches at an impressive average of 59.33 and a strike rate of 157.80. 

Apart from winning the coveted Orange Cap, Gill recorded the second-highest runs in a single IPL season, only behind Virat Kohli. Gill also smashed three centuries in IPL 2023, including a blazing 129 against the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 to register the highest individual score in an IPL Playoff game.

1. Virat Kohli (2016) | 973 Runs

The 2016 IPL season saw Virat Kohli elevate his batting to a level never seen before. He amassed 973 runs in 16 matches, coming agonisingly close to becoming the first player to score 1,000 runs in a single IPL season. With an average of 81.08 and a strike rate of 152.03.

Interestingly, no other batter has scored 900 or more runs in an IPL season. Kohli led RCB to the final that year as they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

A test legend in his own rights, Ravichandran Ashwin had started his career with the T20s. The off-spinner from Tamil Nadu has played 333 T20 games so far in his career and took 317 wickets at an astonishing economoy rate of 7.11. 

In IPL, he has played for teams like CSK, Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals, Rising Pune Supergiants and Delhi Capitals along with playing for the Indian team and Tamil Nadu in his career. In his 221 IPL games, he has taken 187 wickets at 7.20 runs per over. For India, in T20Is, Ashwin has the off-spinner took 72 wickets in only 65 games. 

3. Piyush Chawla | 319 T20 Wickets

The leg spinner has been playing T20s since 2007 and has played a total 297 T20 matches so far in his career. In his career, he has taken 319 T20 wickets with an economy rate of 7.53. However, he only played 7 T20 internationals for India and took only 4 wickets for the country.

In the Indian Premier League, he has featured in 192 games for Chennai Super Kings, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians. Chawla has been one of the most successful bowlers in the tournament with 192 wickets with an economy rate of 7.96 runs per over.

Moreover, he has played for overseas teams like Sussex in Vitality Blast Tournament in England. 

2. Bhuvneshwar Kumar | 327 T20 wickets

The 35-year-old medium pacer has been one of the highest wicket-takers for India in T20I cricket. In T20 internationals for India, Bhuvnewshwar Kumar has taken 90 wickets in 87 T20I matches at an outstanding economy rate of 6.96, including two five-wicket hauls. 

In Indian Premier League, while playing for Pune Warriors, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Royal Challengers Bangalore, Buvi has taken 198 wickets in 190 matches at an excellent economy rate of 7.69 runs per over. In total, Bhuvneshwar so far has taken 327 wickets in T20 cricket in 309 matches at 7.36 runs per over.

He stands as the second highest wicket-taker among Indians in T20 cricket and is the only Indian fast bowler to take more than 300 wickets in shortest format of the game.

1. Yuzvendra Chahal | 380 T20 Wickets

Yuzvendra Chahal is perhaps the most Indian successful bowlers in the shortest format of the game. The leg-spinner from Haryana started his career with IPL teams like Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore and made a name for yourself to get into the Indian team.

Chahal spent eight seasons with Royal Challengers Bangalore and with 139 wickets, is still their highest wicket-taker in Indian Premier League history. However, RCB decided not to retain him in the 2022 mega auction, and Chahal headed to Rajasthan Royals. 

In IPL 2025 Mega acution, he became the most expensive spinner in the tournament's history as Punjab Kings bought him for INR 18 cr. Till now, in IPL, Chahal has taken 221 wickets, and is the most successful bowler in the tournament's history. For India, he has played 80 T20I games and once was the highest wicket-taker for India in T20Is with 96 wickets.
