Ashwin Doesn’t Make the Squad for Asia Cup 2023

Former Indian cricketer Karshan Ghavri believes that Ravichandran Ahswin should be given more chance in the white ball format.
Ashwin Doesn’t Make the Squad for Asia Cup 2023

Now, there has been a lot of controversy and discussions about Ashwin's place on the Indian team. It all started with the ICC Test World Cup 2023, where he was benched by the team management. And now he has been dropped from the upcoming Asia Cup 2023.

Ashwin's omission from the Indian team isn't something new. While one of the most prolific spinners the Indian team has ever seen, Ashwin has been repeatedly ignored in crucial matches – like the World Cup finals, even when he was on the squad. Team India often felt they missed out on the all-rounder's abilities after the match – which resulted in defeats.

For the Asia Cup 2023 though, Ashwin couldn't earn himself a call to the squad line-up.

Top Reactions for Ashwin's Omission from the Asia Cup 2023

Former Indian pacer Karsan Ghavri, in support of this genius all-rounder, questioned the Indian team selectors. Even you can support your favourite player, or sport and bet on them from the Betway app.

Although Ghavri supported the selected 17-man squad for Asia Cup 2023, he didn't like the idea of Ajit Agarkar leading the selection committee of dropping Ravichandran Ashwin from the squad especially when he has been doing exceptionally well for the past few years.

Furthermore, besides Ghavri, former Indian cricketer Madan Lal is also confused with the team selection. The main concern is dropping both Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal. Instead, the committee decided to support the left-handed wrist spinner, Kuldeep Yadav. It is surprising for the former cricketers, that in spite of having great performances over the few months, and huge experience, these people couldn't make it to Asia Cup 2023.

In support of the current selected squad, Indian captain Rohit Sharma, said, Yuzvendra Chahal couldn't make it to the squad due to this lack of batting capability. Since they are looking for depth in their batting lineup, they decided to go with all-rounders like Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel.

Karsan Ghavri Believes Ashwin Needs More Chances

However, Ghavri didn't find this pleasing enough. He strongly believes that Ashwin, despite being the senior player both in terms of experience and performance, does not get the proper treatment.

For a fact, Ashwin is only second to Anil Kumble (953) in terms of the highest number of international wickets for India, and has taken over 712 international wickets. Furthermore, the veteran cricketer is quite convenient with the bat. He was even a last-minute addition to India's T20 World Cup last year. Therefore, Ghavri believes that Ashwin is a valuable asset for the upcoming ICC World Cup, which is going to be held in India.

Ghavri on Yashasvi Jaiswal over Tilak Verma

He is also not happy with the selection of Tilka Verma, while Yashasvi Jaiswal is dropped. He believes Jaiswal should have been selected for the Asia Cup 2023, given his performance. Even though he wishes good luck to Tikal Verma at some level he thinks Jaiswal should have been selected in big tournaments like the Asia Cup, which will eventually help the selectors to choose India's World Cup squad.
