West Indies batter Chris Gayle has clarified that he has not officially announced his retirement from international cricket as he wants to play his farewell game in his hometown Jamaica

West Indies batter Chris Gayle has clarified that he has not officially announced his retirement from international cricket. Meanwhile, he wants to play his farewell game in his hometown Jamaica. Gayle was applauded onto the field by teammates when he went out to open the batting against Australia on Saturday. Moreover, he had saluted the ground after his dismissal, proceeding to throw gloves into the crowd. Alongside the retiring Dwanye Bravo, he was given a guard of honor on his way off the field at the end of the match.

What Chris Gayle said in ICC's Facebook live :

"I was just having some fun against Australia. Put everything that happened aside. I was just interacting with the fans in the stand and just having some fun seeing as it's going to be my last World Cup game,"

Chris Gayle said in ICC's post match Facebook live show

"I'd love to play one more World Cup. But I don't think they will allow me. It's been a phenomenal career. I didn't announce any retirement but they actually give me one game in Jamaica to go in front of my home crowd, then I can say 'hey guys, thank you so much.' Let's see. If not, I'll announce it a long time and then I'll be joining DJ Bravo in the backend and say thanks to each and everyone but I can't say that as yet,", he added.

A veteran of 79 T20Is, 103 Tests, and 301 ODIs, Gayle's international career has spanned 22 years and three decades.

"I've been through a lot of struggle. You mentioned the heart condition but I've had a phenomenal career. I want to give thanks to actually be standing here today, aged 42 still going strong. The career has been really great. I've had a bit of hiccup here and there. I've shed blood, I've shed tears in West Indies cricket, you name it, one leg, one hand, I'm still batting for West Indies,"

Hence, while Gayle is the seventh-fastest batsman to score 1000 IPL runs, he is the fastest to reach 3000 and 4000 runs. He boasts of scoring six centuries and 31 half-centuries in the tournament.

6. Jonny Bairstow | 26 Innings

In 50 IPL matches played so far for SRH and Punjab Kings, Bairstow has 1589 runs to his name. He has been a prolific opener in the competition.

While Hayden scored just 189 runs from the four innings he played in the inaugural edition, the legendary opening batter delivered an ‘Orange Cap’ winning performance the following year with 572 runs off 12 innings. Moreover, Matthew Hayden also clattered 346 runs in 16 innings of IPL 2010 to play a crucial role in CSK’s title-winning run.

Hayden finished his IPL career with 1107 runs for the Men in Yellow.

4. Sai Sudharsan | 25 Innings

Moreover, Sudharsan has maintained a staggering strike rate of 140.80, and has recorded eight half-centuries and one century in the process.

By the time of recording 1,000 runs for the franchise, Conway averaged a healthy 47.90, all while boasting an astonishing strike rate of 140.30. With 1,006 runs from 24 innings, Conway has also glittered his IPL career with ten stunning half-centuries.

2. Lendl Simmons | 23 Innings

Lendl Simmons made his IPL debut in 2014 for Mumbai Indians. it took him just 23 innings to complete 1,000 runs, doing so during the 2017 edition of the tournament.

Notably, Simmons played all his IPL matches for the Mumbai Indians franchise between the years 2014 and 2017, and lifted the title on two separate occasions under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. During Mumbai Indians’ emphatic 2015 title win, Simmons aggregated 540 runs from 13 innings at an average of 45.

The left-handed opening batter played all his IPL matches for the Punjab Kings, from 2008 up until his final appearance in 2017 and scored 2477 runs in 71 Matches.

Pant joined the Delhi Capitals in 2016 after he performed exceptionally in the Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh, where India finished as the runners-up under Ishan Kishan’s leadership. Pant was a teenager then and from there on he did not look back.

During the 2018 Indian Premier League, Rishabh Pant scored an unbeaten 128 from 63 balls for Delhi Capitals in IPL. It is Pant's highest-ever individual score in IPL.

Gayle scored 193 runs in ten games in IPL 2021.

He has eleven half-centuries with a high score of 88 not out in the IPL. Russell has many times won games for KKR on his own in very difficult situations.
