CSK vs LSG: Ruturaj, Moeen Ali made the homecoming special for Chennai after a thrilling win against Lucknow

Lucknow Super Giants were off to a flying start thanks to a 21-ball half-century from Kyle Mayers in the powerplay while chasing a massive target of 218. However, three wickets in quick succession brought the home side right back into the match. LSG's chase picked up the pace once again with Nicholas Pooran but CSK kept chipping away and finally registered their first victory of the season despite the plenty no of wide and no balls their bowlers ended up sending in. CSK vs LSG: IPL 2023 Match Report

LSG won the toss & decided to bowl first for the advantages of the dew factor in the later stages of the match. Ruturaj & Conway started the inning for Chennai while Mayers bowled the first over for Lucknow. Unlike the first match, CSK didn't throw up their wickets in the important stages of the match, and that became the reason behind their humongous total.

Ruturaj & Conway: the most awaited partnership

Ruturaj once again showed his art through the shot selections, while Conway accompanied him really well. Both the batsmen dealt in boundaries & brought up a 100 runs stand under 9 overs. Ruturaj scored 57 runs in 31 deliveries & grabbed the orange cap by becoming the top scorer of IPL 2023 after playing two matches. Devon Conway failed to show his class in the last match but he seemed different on Monday against Lucknow. He missed his half-century by 3 runs but did enough with 29 balls 47 runs to give CSK a healthy start. CSK lost their first & second wicket at the score of 110 & 118. Lucknow got their momentum but failed to capitalize on that.

Shivam Dube played a brilliant cameo after being hated for the last match performance & showed why the skipper kept the faith in him. He smashed 27 runs with three huge sixes while Moeen Ali smashed 19 runs with three fours. Ben Stokes (8) still needs time to gain his full shape as once again he struggled today. Ambati Raydu smashed 27 runs in 14 balls & helped Chennai to get past 200+ total. Skipper MS Dhoni smashed two back-to-back sixes to Mark Wood & CSK ended their inning for 217 runs after the end of 20 overs. Mark Wood & Ravi Bishnoi both scalped 3 wickets while Avesh Khan took a single wicket.

Kyle Mayers gave Lucknow the dream start

Kyle Mayers gave the perfect start to Lucknow to chase a score like this. He continued his form & scored a 21-ball half-century. Deepak Chahar, the most proven powerplay bowler for Chennai got slammed big-time alongside Ben Stokes. Lucknow put up 80+ runs in the powerplay but Moeen Ali played the gamble & dismissed Mayers for 53 runs.

CSK scalped 3 wickets under 3 runs and completely changed the course of the match. Kl Rahul (20) & Hooda (2) lost their wicket to Moeen Ali & Santner and LSG became 82/3 after 79/0. Marcus Stoinis & Pooran took the responsibility to carry the team after the dismissal of Krunal Pandya (9). Moeen Ali got his third wicket by dismissing him.

Stoinis started well but eventually, he had to return to the dugout for 21 runs as Moeen Ali shattered his stumps. Pooran played a brilliant cameo & kept the hopes alive for LSG but the impact player Tushar Deshpande dismissed him for 32 runs after Stokes took a comfortable catch at the long on. The hopes for Lucknow completely shattered after that. Gowtham & Badoni tried their best but it was too late to be true for Lucknow Super Giants.

Major setback for BCCI as Bombay HC orders to pay ₹538 crore to defunct IPL team Kochi Tuskers Kerala | sportzpoint.com

For years, the Board of Control for Crock in India (BCCI) has navigated various challenges. However a recent coury order is set to have a major financial impact on the sport's governing body.

This ruling revisits a past chapter involving a former IPL team and a long-standing dispute with them. The decision has arrived after a decade of the case, and brings a major setback for BCCI as Bombay HC orders to pay ₹538 crore to defunct IPL team Kochi Tuskers Kerala.

Read the full story to know why.

How the BCCI-Kochi Tuskers Kerala dispute began

Major setback for BCCI as Bombay HC orders to pay ₹538 crore to defunct IPL team Kochi Tuskers Kerala | sportzpoint.com
BCCI authorities, 2025. Image | Facebook

The root of this major legal battle dates back to 2011, when the BCCI terminated the contract of the IPL team Kochi Tuskers Kerala. The team, managed by Kochi Cricket Private Limited (KCPL), had only played in one IPL season.

The BCCI claimed they ended the contract because Kochi Tuskers failed to provide a required annual bank guarantee by a deadline in March 2011. This was seen by the BCCI as a serious breach of their agreement.

However, the team owners had a different view. They argued that their delay was due to several issues, including problems with the stadium in Kochi and delays in getting necessary approvals. They also stated that the BCCI continued to deal with them and even accepted payments for months after the March deadline.

The team owners believed this showed the BCCI had waived or overlooked the deadline, making their sudden contract termination unfair.

Taking the matter to arbitration:

Because they felt the termination was wrong, the Kochi Tuskers owners took the matter to arbitration in 2012. An independent tribunal looked at all the facts. In June 2015, this tribunal ruled in favor of Kochi Tuskers Kerala.

The tribunal specifically directed the BCCI to pay ₹384.83 crore to Kochi Cricket Private Limited (KCPL) for lost earnings and ₹153.34 crore to Rendezvous Sports World (RSW) for a wrongfully cashed bank guarantee. These amounts also included interest and legal costs.

The BCCI challenged the 2015 arbitration award in the Bombay High Court, arguing it was unfair and that the damages were too high. However, the recent Bombay HC ruling upheld the original arbitration decision.

This means the BCCI is now legally required to pay a total of over ₹538 crore, including accumulated interest since 2015, to the KTK owners. This represents a major financial loss and a significant legal defeat for the Indian cricket board.
