“Obviously it’s a massive relief for what’s gone on over the last 72 hours but it’s really nice to get the nod and give this hand a chance to be ready for the first game.”

Mitchell said after getting confirmed for the tournament as per sources of NZherald

“It was a bit niggly timing but the fracture is in a good spot and it’s going to be able to heal in time, hopefully for the first game,” he added.

New Zealand has a line of injuries, with two of their premier pacers nursing an injury. Adam Milne had to leave the field against Bangladesh after complaining of stiffness in his abdominal area. However, head coach Gary Stead was quite hopeful about Milne recovering in time for the game against Pakistan on Tuesday.

“It was only for one ball so it was completely precautionary him coming off,” Stead updated on Milne’s injury.

“He’s being re-assessed again this morning, we’re hopeful he could be in a position even to play tomorrow yet.”

Meanwhile, Lockie Ferguson has been undergoing his recovery from an abdominal strain. He has been rested for the remainder of the ongoing Tri Series. Stead was optimistic that Ferguson has more than a week’s time to come back. However, he expects him to take the field for the first game against Australia on October 22.
