ENG vs IND Test Series: The ECB cancels the 5th test after consulting with the BCCI due to fears of further increase of COVID-19 cases inside the camp.

After various speculations over the 5th test, the ECB finally calls off the 5th test between ENG vs IND. While hours earlier there were still hopes that the 5th test might take place, the ECB decided against it.

The official statement from the ECB regarding the ENG vs IND 5th test read:

Following ongoing conversations with the BCCI, the ECB can confirm that the fifth LV= Insurance Test between England and India Men due to start today at Emirates Old Trafford, will be cancelled.

Due to fears of a further increase in the number of COVID cases inside the camp, India are regrettably unable to field a team.

We send our sincere apologies to fans and partners for this news; which we know will cause immense disappointment and inconvenience to many.

Further information will be shared in due course.

To clarify, the current situation is like this because India head coach Ravi Shastri; bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar returned positive results to their RT-PCR tests during the fourth Test. They are currently undergoing isolation and can come out only after returning two negative results. However, there are no other cases of Covid-19 inside the camp just yet. The ECB cancelled the test to prevent the further spreading of the virus inside the camp.
