Gujarat Titans
Gujarat have a tremendous season this year and they started the tournament where they left in 2022. Being the defending champions, Gujarat became the first team of IPL 2023 to qualify for the playoffs. Gill is the star of the season for them and is in magnificent form in the tournament. The tournament was overall good for Gujarat until they failed to chase the target against CSK and they have the chance to play the 2nd qualifier against Mumbai tomorrow.
The last game for them hasn't gone well as their batsmen fell to strike the ball on a relatively tougher wicket of Chennai to chase. Gill was the top scorer of the match but he also couldn't finish the game. In the middle order Dasun Shanaka, David Miller & Vijay Shankar didn't score big in the last game while the heroics of Rashid Khan down the order also couldn't save them. Their bowling was good as Shami & Mohit Sharma took two wickets each in the game. And the spinning spearhead Rashid Khan, the star of T20 games will also be a crucial player in the match. Gujarat needs to play like their group stage matches to win and qualify for the final.
Mumbai Indians
Mumbai won the Eliminator game against LSG comprehensively with a big margin of 81 runs. This win will give them a major boost to play the 2nd Qualifier while they have won 4 out of the last 5 matches they played in IPL 2023. Also, Mumbai possesses a tremendous record in playoff games where they are one of the most consistent teams in IPL history. The team picked up the gear at the ultimate time in the competition and their batsmen made a good contribution in the game.
Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and Cameron Green all are in good touch while Surya has scored a century in this season as well. Youngster Nehal Wadhera also have a good season with the bat who scored a good run in the lower order with a good strike rate. Mumbai didn't have any star bowlers this season and they suffered in the first half of the tournament for the bowling. But Captain Rohit Sharma and management keep the trust in the youngsters and give them the opportunity to play.
Akash Madhwal who made his debut in this season for Mumbai has picked up a 5 wicket haul against LSG and equals the bowling figure with Anil Kumble(5/5). Piyush Chawal the veteran leggie who played for Mumbai this season also has a very good season with the ball and picked up 21 wickets so far which is the 2nd highest of this season. Mumbai will look in the same form as all these players in the next game to achieve the ticket for IPL 2023 final.
