Fast bowler Harshal Patel is on the verge of recovery from a rib injury and he can return to the field during this month's T20I series against Australia. On the other hand, the Indian team for the T20 World Cup can also be announced on 15 September. In such a situation, the BCCI selectors will be hoping that Harshal will pass his fitness test by next week.

A member of the selection committee told InsideSport, "His recovery is going great. In fact, he is very close to recovery. He is still at the NCA and will have a fitness test next week to understand how he is progressing. We hope that he will be available for the Australia series,"

Harshal has become India's specialist T20 bowler in the last one year. He has played a lot of T20 Internationals for India since making his debut against New Zealand in November 2021. He has also performed effectively in the middle overs by taking 23 wickets. Harshal's form has declined recently, but he is a specialist as an economical bowler.

Harshal Patel is an expert in throwing yorkers along with slower balls, so he can prove to be fatal on Australian pitches. Apart from this, he also strengthens the lower order as a batsman. If Jasprit Bumrah misses out on the T20 World Cup, it will be even more important to have Harshal Patel on the team.

A senior BCCI official said about Jasprit Bumrah, "He has made good progress on his recovery. We are in constant touch with the physios. Nitin (Patel) is keeping a regular tab while he is away from NCA. We are hopeful that he will be coming back in Australia or South Africa series and definitely for T20 World Cup. But it's still too early to say,"
