Indian pacer Harshal Patel will most certainly miss the Asia Cup 2022 and won't be a likely starter for India in the T20 World Cup 2022. It has been reported that the Indian pacer is dealing with a side strain that could sideline him from consideration. On August 8, the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2022 is anticipated to be revealed.

Harshal, the 31-year-old, is now in the US with the Indian side for the five-match T20I series against West Indies. Moreover, he has been absent from the first three matches. The two remaining games will be missed by him, one of which will begin later on Saturday, August 6, in Florida.
Due to the side strain, Harshal Patel may miss the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia too in October-November. Meanwhile, his injury requires four to six weeks of rest and rehabilitation. His chances of competing in the World Cup depend on how quickly he heals. After his return from the US, he will be requested to join the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Since making his T20I debut in November last year, Harshal has participated in 17 matches. He last played on July 10 when India met England in Nottingham.
Deepak Chahar is likely to replace Harshal Patel in the team
Deepak Chahar, who has been out with a hamstring ailment since February but was selected for the three-ODI series against Zimbabwe later this month, may benefit from Harshal's absence.

Virat Kohli and KL Rahul are also expected to return for the Asia Cup. Both missed the West Indies series for separate reasons: Rahul was sick with Covid, and Kohli chose not to play. The Asia Cup 2022 is slated to begin on August 27.
