While the T20 World Cup 2022 is still about three months away, a BCCI selector has said that Dinesh Karthik has already sealed his spot in the Indian squad for the mega event.
"Who can stop Dinesh Karthik now? He is certainty now for T20 World Cup in Australia. He is consistent in his approach and most importantly consistently delivers via his approach. His experience will now be a big asset,"
the selector was quoted as saying by Insidesport
"No formal talk has happened on the subject. Informally when we speak, all are very impressed with him and his attitude," the selector added.
Dinesh Karthik has performed exceptionally well since his return to the Indian team on the back of stunning exploits in the IPL 2022.
Playing as a designated finisher, Karthik produced a couple of dazzling cameos in the home T20I series against South Africa last month, which helped him retain his place in the side for the tours of Ireland and England.
Dinesh Karthik won the Man Of The Match award in the 1st T20I against West Indies
The 37-year-old failed to make a mark in the three-T20I series against England, but he roared back to form in the first T20I against West Indies in Trinidad on Friday (July 29).
Batting at No. 7, Karthik slammed 41* off 17 balls (4 fours and 2 sixes), propelling the visitors to a massive 190/6 in 20 overs, which proved too much for the West Indies as India won the match by 68 runs.

"It was sticky, not an easy wicket to bat on. It's a very interesting role, you need the backing from the coach and the captain and that really helped. Important to assess the wicket and what kind of shots you need to play, and that comes with practice."
Karthik said at the post-match presentation
With these performances, Karthik has certainly strengthened his claims for the T20 World Cup 2022 selection. For his match-defining knock, Dinesh Karthik earned the Player-of-the-Match award in the T20I series opener against West Indies.
