Highest Partnership in IPL (Top Five)

1. AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli: 229 runs (Bangalore vs. Gujarat, 2016)

Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers hold the record for the highest partnership in the IPL. This one came against Gujarat back in 2016. Batting first, Bangalore lost Gayle early but then Kohli and AB got together for the second wicket and shared a stand of 229 runs off just 96 balls. Kohli finished on 109 off 55 balls, while de Villiers made 129* off 52 balls as Bangalore scored 248 for 3 in their 20 overs.

2. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers: 215 runs (Bangalore vs. Mumbai, 2015)

The AB-Kohli duo features for the second time on this list. In the 2015 season, these two put together a 215-run stand for the 2nd wicket at the Wankhede Stadium against Mumbai. This was a record-breaking partnership, which was eventually toppled in the subsequent year by the same pair. De Villiers made a magnificent 133*, while Kohli finished on 82* off 50 balls. Bangalore finished their innings on 235/1 in 20 overs.

3. Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul: 210* (Lucknow vs. Kolkata, 2022)

The Lucknow opening duo of Rahul and de Kock didn't just break the opening partnership record; They smashed it by 25 runs. At one point, with 6 overs left to be bowled, de Kock was on 60 and Rahul on 50. But in the last 30 balls, they made an unbelievable 99 runs.

4. Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh: 206 runs (Punjab vs. Bangalore, 2011)

The Australian pair of Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh held the record of the highest partnership in the league for 4 years. The duo launched an all-out attack against Bangalore bowlers, with Gilchrist making 106 runs off 55 balls and Marsh scoring 79* off 49 balls. The pair added 206 runs in 96 balls for the 2nd wicket as Punjab made a massive 232/2 in their 20 overs. In the end, Punjab won the match by 111 runs.

5. Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli: 204 runs (Bangalore vs. Delhi, 2012) 

Virat Kohli features for the third time in the list of the top 5 highest partnerships in Indian T20 League history. After Dilshan got out early, Kolhi got together with Chris Gayle, and the two hammered the Delhi bowling attack. Gayle made a scorching 128* off 62 balls, while Kohli was equally effective with a 53-ball 73. Bangalore made 215 runs before restricting Delhi to 194. This remains one of the highest partnerships in the league's history.
