Let's explore how new technologies make the Indian Premier League more exciting than ever.

The KFC Big Bash League's Brisbane Heat grabbed the attention of cricket experts and fans worldwide during the league's 2018 edition when it showcased the team's latest innovation: The Cage. It was a batting warm-up net installed near the seating bowl.

It's not wrong to say that cricket bodies and teams worldwide have been adopting new technologies to improve their skills and make matches more interesting than ever for fans. For instance, the use of high-resolution cameras enabled viewers to watch batting techniques and bowling actions. A view of the knuckleball is an example.

Disney Star Announced New Technologies for IPL 15

In an announcement earlier this year, Disney Star revealed that it planned to introduce a series of technologies for Tata IPL 2022. The official broadcaster also announced that the new innovations developed by the R&D arm - Star Lab will be adopted across the sports network of Star Sports and Disney+ Hotstar.

Let's have a look at those technologies that have been grabbing headlines:

  • Dolby Atmos

Developed by Dolby, Dolby Atmos is a kind of surround sound technology that interprets sound in 3D. Different from a standard speaker sound approach, the new technology is capable of producing around 118 sound objects simultaneously, enabling a designer to place sound to an exact point.

Disney Star head of sports said that their aim was to provide fans at their homes with a real-like experience. Now, fans can watch a match in Dolby Atmos, which means they can hear details that they couldn't listen to earlier. Viewers can experience Dolby Atmos on Star Sports1 HD and Star Sports1 Hindi HD.

  • Megaphone for Online Voting

The IPL broadcaster is using technology to find more ways to enable fans sitting at their homes to connect with the sport more than ever. And, online voting during matches through Megaphone is a fine example of that.

In an attempt to provide viewers with a live and interactive experience, Star Sports enables TV audiences to vote during cricket shows while analysing the opinions of experts.

  • BTS Tech Venture

'Behind the Scenes' tech venture, also known as BTS tech venture, is an attempt to benefit the environment by promoting cloud production and eliminating hardware and limiting location dependency.

Using techniques like the BTS tech venture will help reduce carbon emissions and enable the use of more quality resources for creating high-quality content for IPL matches.

Other Technologies

Disney and Star Sports have invested in many exciting technologies to improve the match experience for players and fans. They include Mixed Reality Analysis to visualise and use Hawkeye graphics. In addition, the use of enhanced analytics for commentators in IPL 2022 makes commentary fun and real-like for commentators and viewers.
