ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023: India vs South Africa Highlights | Virat Kohli's 49th ODI Century and Jadeja's fifer helped India defeat South Africa by 243 runs

India has just thrashed the second-in-table South Africa by 243 runs. Rohit Sharma got off to a brilliant start. Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer then constructed a huge partnership to set the perfect stage to go beyond 300. Virat Kohli scores his 49th ODI Century, equalling Tendulkar's record number. Iyer scored 77 while Jadeja and Surya Kumar played short but effective cameos to pile up a total of 326 which is a huge total, especially in a wicket like Eden Gardens.

From there on, it was all about the Indian bowlers. Siraj struck the first blow, removing the dangerous Quinton de Kock. Then Shami dismantled the rest of the top order. Jadeja then ended the show with a five-wicket haul as Indian secured an eighth consecutive win at the World Cup and seals the top spot in the points table.

It's all over for South Africa. Kuldeep dismisses Lungi Ngidi. India have bowled out the 2nd positioned South Africa for just 83 runs. The Men in Blues are on a different league at this moment.

Jadeja completes his fifer. Jadeja bowled a full length delivery and Rabada hit it straight back to him. Brilliant spell from Jaddu.

A Slower one from Kuldeep and it holds onto the pitch for a fraction too long. Rabada chips it to Jadeja. Easiest catch for Jadeja.

Jadeja bowled Maharaj. Again the ball turns away from the right-hander and crashes into off-stump. A top-class performance by the Indian bowlers and another humiliating defeat for the opposition is on the cards.

South Africa batters want to return to the dressing room as early as they can. Miller simply gifted his wicket to Jadeja. He goes for the scoop after shuffling across but misses the ball on this occasion and is clean bowled.

South Africa are in huge trouble. Leg-before appeal as van der Dussen misses this ball from Shami that nips in. The umpire turns the appeal down and Shami straight up goes for the review. Another successful use of the DRS as the ball is hitting the top of the leg stump.

Jansen is the new batter.

Klaasen, batting on 1 off 10, attempts a sweep and misses. The leg-before appeal was turned down but Rohit decided to review it. The video showed this straightened enough after pitching on the middle and is hitting leg-stump. Klaasen couldn't quite believe it but he had to go back.

Miller is the new batter.

Markram gets an edge behind and Rahul takes it. The umpires want to check if this was taken cleanly and third umpire confirms it is out. Three wickets in the PowerPlay for India.

The ball turns past the right-hander's outside edge and crashes into the stumps. Jadeja came and got the breakthrough. South Africa are 27/2 after 9 overs.

Mohammed Siraj strikes for India. In-form de Kock departs. The Eden Gardens crowd erupts as Siraj brings up his CR7 celebration. De Kock looks to cut to point, but gets an inside edge, back at the stumps.

South Africa are 21/1 after 8 overs. Siraj an Bumrah have kept Van der Dussen and Bavuma under control.

Lungi Ngidi bowled the last over of the innings. Ngidi starts with a dot ball before bowling a wide. Jadeja then bent down and cleared the fence over the Corner for a flat six. Lungi pulled his legs and walked out of the field. Marco Jansen completed the over. Jadeja hit a boundary. It went like a tracer bullet down the ground. Another boundary and this time Jadeja cleared the extra cover region for back-to-back boundaries. Kohli finished with a single as India managed 326 after the end of 50 overs.

Virat Kohli's century, a fifty from Shreyas Iyer, and three cameos one up front from Rohit Sharma and then two down the order from Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja, helped India reach 326 for 5 at the end of 50 overs.

Lungi Ngidi sustains an injury. He walks back to the dressing room. Jansen will bowl the remaining 4 deliveries.

A special milestone on a special day. Virat Kohli equals Sachin Tendulkar's 49 ODI Centuries record on his 35th Birthday. It was not an easy inning. Eden Gardens put huge test in front of Virat Kohli but he stood tall and scored the century, a well-deserved century. This was also Kohli's 79th ton and his 4th in the 50-over showpiece's history and he got to the milestone in 119 balls, peppered with 10 fours.

Excellent effort from de Kock. He dives to his full length to take an excellent catch. It was sent upstairs by the on-field Umpire. The ball has clearly hit Suryakumar on the gloves. The Ultraedge confirms it. India are 285 for 5 after 46 overs

Jadeja is the new batsman.

Suryakumar Yadav is hitting boundaries consistently. Virat Kohli too has to open his arms now.

Marco Jansen dismissed Kl Rahul. India were unable to find boundaries for past few overs. Rahul went for the big hit down the leg side but the ball struck the top of his bat and Van der Dussen took a brilliant catch.

Sky is the new batsman for India.

It will be interesting to see how Indian batters approach the game from here. They have 54 deliveries and 7 wickets in hand. It will be a really good score if India score 310-320 runs after the end of 50 overs.

India are unable to find boundaries at this moment.

Short ball from Lungi and Iyer tried for pull shot but the ball went way high up in the air and Markram completed a clean catch at mid-wicket. Iyer walks back after scoring 77 off 87 deliveries.

Kl Rahul is the new batsman.

After playing a brilliant inning at Wankhede, Iyer was expected to start with boundaries in this match but he had to wait to open his arms as Maharaj was bowling brilliantly. By time, he grew into the match and started to hit boundaries. Shreyas completes his 50 in 65 deliveries filled with 4 fours and 1 six.

South African pacers except Rabada haven't bowled well until now. Jansen has leaked 57 runs in 5 overs while Ngdi has given 43 runs in his 5-over spell. Virat and Shreyas are now pushing for boundaries in every overs.

Virat punches down for a single, completing fifty on his birthday. A well-crafted half-century for King Kohli.

Maharaj with another jaffa. He pitches one in the middle and spins it away. It beats Kohli's outside edge. South Africa goes for a review. It seems like there was a sound of Kohli's batt hitting his shoes. The Birthday boy survives. It was a close call.

India are 124/2 after 20 overs. Shreyas Iyer's struggle against the spin is quite evident. He is batting on 11 after facing 34 deliveries. India have added only 33 runs in the last 10 overs.

Rohit Sharma departed after scoring 40 in 24 deliveries but the run rate didn't reduce. Shubman Gill showed his class and hit some beautiful boundaries. The Birthday boy then joined the party with some boundaries too. Special start on a special day for him.

Keshav Maharaj comes to bowl and struck in the first over with a beauty to get the wicket of Shubman Gill. 3 runs and a wicket in Keshav Maharaj's first over.

First wicket down for India, bowling change works for South Africa with Kagiso Rabada getting the first wicket. The Indian skipper decides he cannot let Rabada settle and tries to hit the ball straight over his head. Temba Bavuma who was placed at Mid Off takes the catch.

The Birthday boy is coming to help Gill now.

It's raining boundaries here at Eden Gardens. Rohit Sharma has already scored 40 runs in just 22 deliveries filled with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Shubman Gill on the other end supporting Rohit Sharma precisely. There was a chance for South Africa when Rohit Sharma's shot went straight to Shamsi but he failed to hold onto the ball. India are 61/0 after 5 overs.

"It looks like a better surface when compared to the last game, that pitch had a lot more spots. It did turn a bit, but it got better under Dew. This pitch has a lot of spots at one end, but not a lot from the other end. It does look slow, there will not be a lot of bounce, the batters need to adjust to this surface. It has got a nice tan and there is some grass on the surface. Both teams have got their bases covered. A bat-first track," reckon Ravi Shastri and Irfan Pathan

"We would have batted first, but now we need to chase, which will be a nice challenge. We know that;s one area where we need to gain more confidence, we'll have to bat with responsibility. We have been putting on good consistent performances and we'll look to improve going forward. One change - Shamsi comes in place of Gerald Coetzee."
