The International Cricket Council (ICC) has made some changes in the ICC rule as per which the umpires henceforth will only assess the side-on replays for stumping without considering the caught-behind scenario during the Decision Review System (DRS) referrals.

Some changes have been made in the ICC rule of cricket in the new year, some of which have not been officially announced. Especially the International Cricket Council (ICC) has solved a big problem, which players had been taking advantage of for some time. Now the video review of stumping will be taken only by watching the replays of side-on cameras, that is, now the umpire will not check the edge of the bat while checking stumping.

For some time, wicketkeepers used to perform stumping against spin bowlers when the ball went past the bat. The umpire had to review the stumping, due to which the edge of the bat was checked without taking DRS. For example, in the home series against India last year, Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey was deliberately stumping the batsman several times.

When the umpire gave signals to the third umpire for stumping, the edge of the bat was also checked. Due to this, review was also done, but the team's own DRS was not spent for this. This will not happen now due to new ICC rules.

According to the new ICC rule, "The change confines a stumping review to only check for stumped, therefore preventing the fielding team a free review for other modes of dismissal (i.e, caught behind) without choosing a player review,"

Other changes of ICC rule

Another change has come in concussion replacement rule. According to this new ICC rule, if the out-of-form player has been suspended from bowling, then the replacement player will also not be allowed to bowl. With this, the third umpire will have wider scope to automatically check all types of foot fault no balls except front foot.
