Wriddhiman Saha's returns with the bat since 2017 have been astounding low. In 14 innings, he has scored 156 runs with an average of less than 15 with a best of 29. He has not hit a fifty in Test cricket since April 2017.
After seeing his performance in the last 4 years, It is certain that he might be dropped in the next match. Meanwhile, there is Srikar Bharat who can make his debut and replace him in the squad.
Rishabh Pant has been in favor of Saha in the recent past. It is Saha who is a better keeper than Pant as per cricket experts. However, Pant has batter stats with the bat which is why he has pipped the Bengal keeper in Test cricket since his debut. In this series, Pant was rested due to workload management and thus Saha was chosen over Srikar Bharat, the second keeper in the XI.
Twitter Demands Wriddhiman Saha's Replacement
A few Twitter posts from the Indian fans trolling Saha :
The Twitterverse has lashed out at the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman for his consistent failures with the bat since the last few years. They have even demanded his retirement and requested the Indian team management to give Bharat his deserved chance in the next Test.
Tim Southee meanwhile has been the best Kiwi bowler on the second morning. He has extracted whatever help the pitch has offered. He moved the ball both inside and away and mixed his clever change-ups as well. The dismissals of Ravindra Jadeja and Shreyas Iyer are prominent examples of the same. Meanwhile, Southee ended with figures of 5/69 his 13th fifer in Test cricket.
New Zealand started well and ended up on 72-0 in 26 overs at Tea break after India finishes their innings at 345. Latham is on 23* and Will Young is on 46* before play resumes after the tea break.
