Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the crucial toss and chose to field first in the 1st game of the IND vs SA series. South Africa got off to a horrendous start with captain Temba Bavuma departing for a duck in the very first over.

Things got worse in the second over, which started with Arshdeep Singh cleaning up Quinton de Kock before dismissing Rilee Rossouw and David Miller. After two overs, the Proteas were staring at the scoreboard that read 8 for 4. In the third over, Deepak Chahar came out with a swinging ball to get rid of the dangerous Tristan Stubbs for a duck. Meanwhile, it takes the score to 9 for 5.

Aiden Markram and Wayne Parnell settled South Africa's innings with a 33-run partnership. But Markram couldn't hang around for long, walking back to the pavilion after scoring 25 runs off 24 balls.

"We are gonna bowl first. It was a good wicket when we played here last time. Bit of green covering but it's going to be a good batting track. Very important to continue to do what you're doing and keep that momentum in this format. The very healthy atmosphere in the group. We also want to make sure to tick all the boxes so far we have been doing good and we just want to continue to do that.

Hardik and Bhuvi are rested from the last series. Pant and Arshdeep come in for them. Bumrah and Chahal miss out. Deepak Chahar and Ashwin are back," said Rohit.
