Punjab Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders convincingly to make a way for DC to the playoffs. With 16 points in 11 matches in the IPL 2021 points table, Delhi Capitals qualified for the playoffs After CSK they are now the 2nd team to confirm their place in the playoffs of this season. On the other hand, with the loss of KKR, they can have a maximum of 14 points also the same for PBKS. Punjab Kings successfully defeated Kolkata by 5 wickets with six of Shah Rukh Khan's through the mid-wicket.

Toss Update from Dubai :

Punjab Kings skipper KL Rahul won the toss and elected to bowl first against KKR in Dubai. However, KL Rahul and his management make two changes in their xi. As the Universe Boss, Chris Gayle lefts the bio-bubble with Fabian Allen replaces him. Also, Mayank Agarwal makes a comeback in the playing xi by replacing Mandeep Singh. On the other side, Kolkata played with an extra batsman in their side. Tim Seifert makes his debut by replacing injured Lockie Ferguson. Also, Shivam Mavi replaces Sandeep warrior in the playing xi.

A Fiery start from KKR in the first innings :

In form openers of KKR, Venkatesh Iyer and Shubhman Gill come to the crease to set a target for the Punjabians. However, the young talented Arshdeep Singh has other plans, as he gets rid of PBKS from Gill. Shubman Gill was gone for 7 runs as Rahul Tripathi comes to the crease. Iyer and Tripathi started to smash each and every bowler of Punjab Kings out of the park. The duo made a strong partnership of 72 runs in just 56 balls.

But, soon Ravi Bishnoi came and broke the 72 runs partnership of the Iyer-Tripathi duo. In the very next over, Ravi also picks up his 2nd wicket as Venkatesh Iyer gone for a brilliant 67 runs in 49 deliveries. Soon KKR slips from 120-2 to 124-4 with Morgan(2) again fails to score big. However, Nitish Rana comes and joins with Dinesh Kartik to end up on a high note.

Nitish Rana played a brilliant cameo as he finishes on 31 runs in just 18 deliveries with 2 fours and 2 sixes. The debutant for KKR, Tim Seifert came at the 18th over and got run out in the next over by Shami. However, KKR finishes on a good total of 165-7 runs in 20 overs. Although, for PBKS Arshdeep took 3 wickets and Ravi Bishnoi took a double. As Mohammad Shami takes a wicket with a run out in the 19th over.

The Chase from Punjab Kings :

Punjab Kings openers skipper KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal come to the crease to chase the target. As Mayank started to flowing boundaries and over boundaries back to back. On the other hand skipper, KL Rahul played the anchor role for PBKS. The duo scored 70 runs in just inside of 9 overs before Mayank got out. Mayank scored 40 runs in just 27 balls before he get caught by KKR skipper Morgan.

After that out of form, POoran came to join his captain in the run chase. However, soon Chakravarthy gets rid of Pooran(12) in his next over. Varun Chakravarthy finishes his spell on 4-0-24-2. After that Aiden Markram makes a handy partnership with his captain before Markram got out on 18 runs.

34 runs were needed in the last four overs as KL Rahul was still there. Although, in the 17th over Deepak Hooda was gone for 3 runs in Mavi's delivery. But, the main man behind PBKS winning last night was Shah Rukh Khan who came in the 17th over of Punjab's innings. He smashes 22 runs in just 9 balls with 2 fours and a six to end KKR;'s hope, when Rahul got out on last over.

Punjab Kings finishes for 168-5 runs in 19.3 overs and registered a 5 wickets win over KKR. KL Rahul scored 67 runs in 55 balls with 4 boundaries and 2 over boundaries. However, KKR pays for playing with only 4 specialist bowlers at the end.

With this win, Punjab Kings are now back again in the race for the playoffs. Moreover, they are now in 5th place in the IPL 2021 points table. On the other hand, KKR has also the same points in the same matches but they have a better net run rate in comparison to Punjab Kings.

"As the game between RCB and KKR on 17th May 2025 was abandoned due to inclement weather, all valid ticket holders are eligible for a full refund," the franchise said in a statement.

"Digital ticket holders will receive their refunds within 10 working days to the original account used to book the tickets. In case you do not receive the refund by 31st May, kindly send an email to refund@ticketgenie.in with your booking details to escalate the matter."

Both teams awarded one point each

After Saturday's rain, both RCB and KKR were awarded one point each. RCB topped the IPL 2025 points table with 17 points from 12 matches and moved closer to sealing their place in the playoffs, while KKR were out of the race for the top four with 12 points from 13 matches.

RCB to seal their place in playoffs 

RCB will now host Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 23 and then take on Lucknow Super Giants on May 27. RCB can seal their place in the last four even before playing their next match, as they will advance if either Punjab Kings or Delhi Capitals lose on Sunday.

As the much-awaited IPL 2025 is set to resume from May 17, after facing disruption for several days due to the India-Pakistan conflict. As a result, many overseas players, who had flown back to their respective countries, are facing trouble rejoining their IPL franchises.

Some have stated injury issues, while others have their international commitments ahead. Therefore, each team had to make certain changes and sign temporary replacements for the remaining matches.
