England captain Joe Root had a disappointing new year as he was dismissed for zero in the fourth Test of the Ashes series. He scored the most runs in the year 2021. Root did not score any run in seven balls. Meanwhile, his wicket was taken by newcomer Scott Boland. He was caught by Steve Smith at the slip off Boland's ball. With this, some embarrassing records were added to his name. The England captain has equaled Don Bradman for the record of most number of ducks in the Ashes as captain.

Talking about the current Ashes series, he has been out on zero for the second time. Root has been dismissed for the seventh time as the captain of the England Test team. He has reached the second number of dismissals for the most number of 0 dismissals in Tests as the captain of England. Ahead of him is Michael Earthton, who was dismissed for zero 8 times in Tests while captaining England. Root has moved to joint second place for the most number of dismissals in Tests against a team in Tests as captain.

Root could not open the account for the fifth time against Australia as captain. In this respect, he is equal to Don Bradman. Sir Don was dismissed for 0 against England 5 times while being the captain of Australia. Therefore, Joe Root becomes the joint record holder for the record of most number of ducks in the Ashes as captain, New Zealand's Stephen Fleming is at the top of this list.
