England pacer Jofra Archer will be out of competitive cricket until next summer after the pacer underwent a second operation to treat his right injured elbow. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday.

Jofra Archer missed India's tour of England, the whole of Indian Premier League, and the T20 World Cup due to the nagging elbow injury. He is not part of the England squad which is currently in Australia for the Ashes. Moreover, Jofra will miss the cricketing action for around 2-3 months from now on.

"The England and Wales Cricket Board can confirm that fast bowler Jofra Archer underwent a second operation on his injured right elbow on Saturday 11 December in London"

ECB said in a statement

"The procedure addressed the long-standing stress fracture of his right elbow. A return to cricket will be determined in time, but Jofra will not be available for any of England's remaining Winter series," ECB added.

Jofra Archer has played a crucial role in England's winning run at the 2019 World Cup. Meanwhile, he has not played international cricket since a T20I series in India in March.

Archer had earlier said he hoped to return to international cricket for a Test series against West Indies in March 2022. Although, after his second surgery the 26-year-old will miss that as well.

Archer has always been a regular performer for the Rajasthan Royals franchise in IPL. Although, the franchise has not retained the England pacer for their upcoming season. It will be interesting to see if any team picks him in the mega auction of IPL 2022.
