West Indies great Kieron Pollard on Tuesday announced his retirement from India Premier League (IPL) as he decided to hang up his boots after playing for Mumbai Indians for 13 seasons.

The all-rounder shared an emotional message on his Twitter handle and thanked the Mumbai Indians. Notably, Pollard has been appointed as the batting coach of the MI franchise.

Here's the statement from Kieron Pollard

"It hasn't been the easiest decision to make as I intend to keep playing for a few more years, but following discussions with Mumbai Indians I have a franchise that has achieved so much that needs to transition and if I'm no longer to play for MI then I cannot see myself playing against MI either. 'Once an MI always an MI'. This is not an emotional goodbye to MI however as I have agreed to take up the role of batting coach in the IPL as well as play with MI Emirates," Pollard wrote on his note and posted on Twitter.

Mr. Akash Ambani, said "Polly leaves behind a huge legacy as a player with Mumbai Indians. Fans roared every time he took to the field. Also a valued member of the MI family and a great friend, he played the beautiful game of cricket with utmost commitment and passion all through his IPL career with us. Pleased to have Polly continue to be a part of the MI Family as a batting coach for Mumbai Indians and as a player with MI Emirates.

The star all-rounder has been with the franchise for 13 years but might not be retained. After MI kept hold of him for Rs. 6 crores ahead of the 2022 mega auction. Pollard had a season to forget by scoring just 144 runs in 11 matches and was ultimately dropped. There are fears that his best days are behind him following his retirement from international cricket and MI might take the hard call to let him go.
