After the series defeat against India, a big news is coming from Cricket Australia. If Australia's regular captain Aaron Finch will injure or his poor form continues, the board can take a big decision. Wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade could be handed the captaincy for T20 World Cup 2022 if Finch's performance deteriorates. The Sydney Morning Herald has reported about this on Tuesday.

Wade is currently not on Cricket Australia's contract list. He was first told to lead the Kangaroos when Finch missed a T20 match against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 2020. But his alleged disciplinary record went against him at that time. Wade's name has come up at a time when Australia's veteran cricketer David Warner's name was being discussed. Finch retired a few days ago, now the search is on for a new ODI captain to replace him.

If Cricket Australia is looking for a replacement for Finch after October-November, Wade's name will be on the top, says the report. Matthew Wade isn't even in the board's central contract yet. He will get only 3 lakh 50 thousand Australian dollars for 12 matches including the recent T20 series against India.

"Prior to the 2018 cultural review of Australian cricket, Wade had been selected on at least one occasion for his 'mongrel' and verbals from behind the stumps, replacing Peter Nevill in the Test team in November 2016. It was a move that left then-selector Greg Chappell aghast," the report said.

"I stated, 'that''s never been criteria for picking a Test team that I have ever heard of, and we shouldn`t be starting now," Greg Chappell wrote in his book, Not Out. "As the idea developed in the meeting I just shook my head, saying 'no, we cannot go down this path'."
