Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in Match 12 of IPL 2023, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, on Saturday. Chasing a target of 158, CSK reached 159/3 in 18.1 overs, thanks to some fine batting from Ajinkya Rahane (61) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (40*). Meanwhile, Jason Behrendorff took a wicket for MI. Initially, MI reached 157/8 in 20 overs, with opener Ishan Kishan smacking 32 runs in 21 balls. Meanwhile, CSK bowlers were in good form, with Ravindra Jadeja taking three wickets. Jadeja and Santner helped CSK to make a comeback after a poor start
Ishan Kishan & Rohit Sharma gave the perfect start Mumbai wanted on a pitch like Wankhede but it only lasted for 3.5 overs. Tushar Deshpande drew the first blood after Mumbai had a brilliant three overs with many boundaries. Tushar sent Rohit Sharma to the dugout for 21 runs. Ishan Kishan still continued to hit big shots and MI reached a 60+ score in the 6th over. Jadeja came in and picked up the wicket of dangerous Ishan Kishan for 32 runs. Deepak Chahar sustained an injury and had to leave the field straight away.
MI then lost 3 wickets under only 12 runs thanks to Jadeja & Santner. Jadeja sent Cameron Green home with a brilliant catch. Santner dismissed Suryakumar Yadav for another poor score of only 1 run. Tilak Verma tried to replay his inning but Jadeja scalped his wicket with an lbw.
Tim David played some big hits but Tushar Deshpande instantly dismissed him in the same over for 21 runs. Mumbai reached 157 runs after the end of 20 overs. Jadeja picked up 3 wickets while Santner got 2 wickets.

Rahane, Ruturaj led Chennai Super Kings to their second consecutive victory
Devon Conway & Ruturaj Gaikwad started the chase of 158 runs. MI needed an early wicket and Behrendroof provided that by shattering the stumps down of Conway in the fourth delivery of the first over. Moeen Ali was not available for Chennai as he had some stomach issues. So, Rahane got a chance to make his debut for Chennai Super Kings, and what a debut it was!
Rahane showed intensity right from the start and then leveled up the inning with 23 runs in an over from Arshad Khan. 1 six & 4 boundaries in the second over of Arshad Khan & it completely changed the course of the match. Rahana continued the fireworks with classy shots and he proved the decision of buying him absolutely right by that kind of debut against the five-time champions. Ajinkya Rahane completed his half-century in just 19 deliveries, which is the fastest half-century of IPL 2023 so far. He went on to make 61 runs in 27 deliveries as Piyush Chawla dismissed him.
Rahane did his job quite brilliantly after loosing the first wicket so early. Dube scored 28 runs while Ruturaj remained not out by scoring 40 runs till the end. He completed the chase with Raydu (20*) and helped Chennai Super Kings register their second victory easily by 7 wickets. Mumbai faced their second straight loss and will be hunting for their first victory in the next game.
