Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 13 runs in the 31st match of the IPL 2023, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, on Saturday. Chasing the target of 215 runs, MI reached 201/6 in 20 overs. Half-centuries from Cameron Green (67) and Suryakumar Yadav (57) went in vain as Arshdeep Singh scalped four wickets, including two in the final over. A quickfire knock of 55 runs off 29 balls by Sam Curran helped PBKS reach 214/8 in 20 overs. Meanwhile, Harpreet Singh Bhatia and Jitesh Sharma also played crucial knocks. Harpreet slammed 41 off 28 balls and Jitesh smacked 25 off 7 balls. For MI's bowling department, Cameron Green and Piyush Chawla took two wickets each. Punjab Kings had a hot & cold start

Mumbai Indians won the toss & decided to bowl first. Matt Short & Prabhsimran Singh opened the inning for the Punjab Kings. Arjun Tendulkar started the proceedings brilliantly with only giving away 5 runs in the 1st over. Cameron Green gave the first blow to Punjab Kings by dismissing Matt Short for 11 runs. Prabhsimran Singh smashed the first maximum of the match in Behrendorff's over. Punjab Kings accumulated 58 runs after the end of the powerplay.

Arjun Tendulkar gave the second breakthrough as he dismissed Prabhsimran Singh for 26 runs. Piyush Chawla dismissed Livingstone for 10 runs and Punjab Kings fell into deep trouble. Piyush Chawla drew another blood by sending Atharva Taide for 29 runs. Punjab Kings lost their 4 wickets in the first 10 overs.

Punjab Kings completely changed the match in the last ten overs

The rest of the 10 overs were all Punjab Kings. They completely changed the course of the match. Skipper Sam Curran and Harpreet Singh Bhatia took responsibility and controlled the match from there. Curran & Bhatia accumulated 31 runs from Arjun Tendulkar's third over. Green then dismissed Harpreet Singh Bhatia for 41 runs. Sam Curran then completed his first half-century of the campaign. He scored 55 runs in 29 deliveries with 5 fours & 4 sixes. Jofra Archer dismissed him after a massive inning. Jitesh Sharma added 25 runs in just 7 deliveries with 4 huge sixes as Punjab Kings scored 214 runs after the end of 20 overs. Piyush Chawla was the best bowler for Mumbai Indians with his brilliant 3-over spell. He picked up 2 wickets after giving away only 15 runs.

MI vs PBKS: IPL 2023 Match Report

Arshdeep Singh gave the early blow to Mumbai Indians by dismissing Ishan Kishan for only 1 run. Although Mumbai Indians had a great start despite loosing the wicket of Ishan Kishan. Cameron Green slammed the first six of the Mumbai Indians' inning. Rohit & Green constructed a 76 runs partnership which gave the hopes for an epic run chase in Wankhede. Rohit Sharma scored 44 runs in 27 deliveries with 4 fours & 3 sixes. Liam Livingstone dismissed the Mumbai Indians skipper.

Cameron Green went on to complete his half-century and kept the hopes alive for Mumbai Indians. On the other side, Suryakumar Yadav picked up his form and made 57 runs in just 26 deliveries with 7 fours and 3 sixes. Nathan Ellis dismissed Green for 67 runs in 43 deliveries with 6 fours & 3 sixes. Tim David also contributed with a quick knock of 25 runs but MI fell short by 13 runs. Arshdeep Singh scalped 4 wickets in his 4-over spell and he was the best among the other bowlers of Punjab Kings.
