Many cricketers come and go but there are only a few who leave a permanent mark with their presence in the team. Be it with bat or ball, playing well consistently and impacting the winning of the team is a great accomplishment. There are some legendary batters who proved or continue to prove their gravity in the team every time they step on the ground. Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for most runs in a calendar year in ODIs. In 1998 he scored 1,894 runs in just 34 matches at an average of 65.31. He scored 9 centuries and 7 fifties that year with a top score of 143.
His inning of 143 against Australia at Sharjah in 1998 is still one of the most impactful ODI innings of his career. It was a dream year for Sachin when he scored nine ODI hundreds in a year in 1998.
Even after more than 20 years, Sachin's record for most ODI runs in a calendar year remains unchanged. On a couple of occasions, players reached their tally of ODI runs in a year, but could never overhaul Sachin's figures achieved in 1998.
