Following Aaron Finch's retirement from the ODI format, Pat Cummins has been named as Australia's new ODI skipper. Notably, Cummins will become the first-ever fast bowler to lead the Australian side in white-ball format. Finch, who announced his retirement from ODIs last month, will continue to lead the T20I side, whereas Cummins will now oversee the Test team and the ODI team.

Cummins will undertake the captaincy responsibilities for the England series beginning on November 17 at the Adelaide Oval. He is likely to lead Australia in the ODI World Cup in India the following year. With one year until the next ODI World Cup, Cricket Australia's decision, which was made public on Tuesday, October 18, is quite essential.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed playing under Finchy and have learned an enormous amount from his leadership. They are significant shoes to fill although we are extremely fortunate to have a one-day squad with a huge amount of experience."

Pat Cummins was quoted as saying in a Cricket Australia media release

Because of how successfully Cummins has led the Test team thus far. So, he is thought to have edged over competitors David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Alex Carey, and Mitchell Marsh. After the T20 World Cup, Australia is slated to play England in three one-day international matches. Then they will host South Africa in January.

said George Bailey, Chair of Selectors

"We are very fortunate to have a number of high-quality leaders and senior players across all formats.
