The former Indian cricketer veteran Sachin Tendulkar officially lodged a police complaint at Mumbai Police with the allegation of using his name, voice and photos are being used for fake advertisements. This fake propaganda can mislead consumers online & Sachin lodged a formal complaint against this. The Crime Branch's cyber cell of Mumbai Police is now investigating the matter. They have registered a case against unidentified people under sections 426, 465 and 500 of IPC and started to investigate the case.

There were several cases were found across the globe where images or voice of the celebrities is used for commercial purposes and mislead people. Reportedly it was discovered by Sachin Tendulkar's personal assistant that in an oil company advertisement on Facebook Tendulkar's picture were used for promotion.

It also mentioned in that advertisement that the product was recommended by Sachin and a similar advertisements were also discovered on Instagram. The Mumbai Police Cyber Cell has filed a case in this matter under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including cheating and falsification, as well as relevant sections of the IT Act.
