Babar remained not out on 1 at the end of day 1. The Pakistani captain reached the milestone in the very first session of the Day 2 of the Galle Test. Not only did the No.1 ranked ODI batter reach the landmark, but he became the 5th fastest overall and fastest Pakistani to score 10,000 international runs.

Babar took just 228 innings to reach the mark in international cricket. Although, he is just behind some big names like Viv Richards, Hashim Amla, Brian Lara, and Joe Root. He surpasses Virat Kohl by 4 innings, who reached the mark in 232 innings.

Fastest to 10,000 International Runs (Innings)

West Indies legend Sir Vivian Richards still remains at the top as Sir Viv reached the mark in just 206 innings. Meanwhile, former South African opener Hashim Amla is in second place. He took 217 innings to reach the 10,000 runs mark. The third and fourth place is currently being occupied by Brian Lara and Joe Root, they took 220 and 222 innings respectively.

Gill also smashed three centuries in IPL 2023, including a blazing 129 against the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 to register the highest individual score in an IPL Playoff game.

Most runs in an edition of IPL

The 2016 IPL season saw Virat Kohli elevate his batting to a level never seen before. He amassed 973 runs in 16 matches, coming agonisingly close to becoming the first player to score 1,000 runs in a single IPL season. With an average of 81.08 and a strike rate of 152.03.

Interestingly, no other batter has scored 900 or more runs in an IPL season. Kohli led RCB to the final that year as they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad.
