Sumanta Gupta, who scored his first double ton in the very first match of the super league season dedicates his innings to his family members. In the first match of the season, Barisha Club meets Paikpara Club where Barisha snatched victory by 150 runs, courtesy of a special double hundred from Sumanta Gupta.

On this special occasion, Sumanta Gupta elaborated on the topic and shared his future plans in an exclusive interview with Sportz Point.

Sumanta is with the Barisha Sporting Club for the last three years. But yet to win a trophy in the first division of cricket despite having one of the best teams in the league. When asked about his reaction after a double ton in the very first match of the season he said: "I am very much happy 'cause this is my first double hundred in league games. I want to dedicate my innings to my father, mother, and wife."

"The coaches and my teammates have supported me throughout and it was a really good experience overall", Sumanta added.

Sumanta Gupta previously played for East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, and Kalighat where he returned with trophies each time. So, when asked about winning trophies for his new club Barisha he said: "I have played for East Bengal for three years and won a total of eight trophies. For Barisha, once we finished as runner-ups. Then I played for Kalighat and Mohunbagan where also I returned with trophies".

"We are a really good side and obviously we must win a trophy. And we are really hoping to win the trophy this year. I think we are one of the best sides of Kolkata this season."

Talking about winning trophies for Barisha Sporting Club Sumanta said

"My work is to perform consistently and give my best", says Sumanta Gupta

Sumanta Gupta previously played for Bengal in white ball cricket, debuted in 2017 but is yet to make it in red ball cricket. So, when asked about his red ball debut for Bengal he said: "I debuted for Bengal in white ball cricket back in the 2017-18 season and have played till 2021, including Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. But, still haven't gotten the chance to debut in red-ball cricket for Bengal. So, I give my best performance each and every year. It's totally on the selectors to pick me or not. My work is to perform consistently and give my best. The rest is on the selectors will they pick me or not."

"It's not a matter if the selectors pick me or not. For me scoring a double hundred in the first match of the season is a big achievement."

Talking further about the current season, Sumanta said: "Our next match is against East Bengal club on the 25, 26, and 27th of November. And then we have Ranji Trophy, but I have no worries about what will the selectors do, pick me or not. It's totally depending on them".
