Sri Lanka cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka has been arrested in Sydney after being charged with sexual assault of a woman. The 31-year-old cricketer was arrested Sunday after the 29-year-old victim filed a complaint before the police last week.

Gunathilaka was with the national squad for T20 World Cup in Australia and as per the latest reports, the team has left Australia without him.
The cricketer had been chatting with the woman on an online dating application for several days and met her last Wednesday in Rose Bay, reported Sydney-based ABC News.
The report quoted police who said Gunathilaka was arrested and taken to Sydney City police station on Sunday.
"As part of ongoing investigations, a crime scene examination was undertaken by specialist police at an address in Rose Bay yesterday. Following further inquiries, a 31-year-old man was arrested at a hotel on Sussex Street, Sydney, shortly before 1 am today (Sunday 6 November 2022)."

He has been charged with four counts of sexual intercourse without consent. The New South Wales police also mentioned the arrest of an unnamed Sri Lankan national on its website.

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is yet to issue a statement on the matter. The team left Australia after it was eliminated from the tournament after losing to England on Sunday.
Gunathilaka last played against Namibia in the first round match and was out for a duck. He was later ruled out of the tournament due to an injury even as the team qualified for the Super 12 stage. The Lankan team finished fourth in Group 1.
