Tata used its Right to Match (RTM) card against the figures presented by Aditya Birla Group and finalized the deal. This means that Tata used the Right to Match card and agreed to pay the amount (Rs 2500 crore) that Aditya Birla Group had bid to win the rights. Tata Group, one of India's largest business conglomerates, had earlier removed Chinese mobile manufacturer Vivo as the IPL title sponsor. Then they signed an agreement with IPL for two years i.e. from 2022 to 2023.

"The BCCI on Saturday awarded the title sponsorship rights for the Indian Premier League to TATA Group for a period of five years. The Indian conglomerate, with diverse verticals, has renewed its association with the BCCI for a record-breaking value of INR 2500 crore,"

Vivo had the IPL title sponsorship rights from 2018-2022. For this, a deal worth around Rs 2200 crore was signed between them and IPL, the exit value in the last year was fixed at Rs 512 crore. However, the deal ultimately ran for six years, as it was put on hold for a year during the pandemic. Following the 2020 Galwan Valley military clash between Indian and Chinese troops, the brand had tied up with Dream 11 and took a one-year break and handed over the sponsorship rights to Dream 11.

However, Vivo returned as the IPL title sponsorship in 2021. There was also speculation that Vivo was looking to transfer the rights to a suitable company and the BCCI approved the move. Tata Group stepped in during the 2022 IPL and agreed to contribute Rs 365 crore per season and Vivo was to cover the rest. Since its success, Tata has been the title sponsor of this league.
