IPL 2022 is around the corner and it is time to celebrate the biggest T20 league. A new season simply means numerous records, exceptional performances, and witnessing new talents. IPL 2022 begins on 26 March and before diving into it, let's take a look at the highest run-getter in every season of IPL till now.
2008- Shaun Marsh

Shaun Marsh began the inaugural edition of IPL in 2008 with great performances. The Australian batter was awarded the Orange Cap for scoring the most runs that season. In 11 matches, he scored 616 runs with an average of 68.4 and a strike rate of 139.68.
2009- Matthew Hayden
The Orange Cap winner of IPL 2009 is Matthew Hayden. In 2009, he might have retired from international cricket but was phenomenal in the IPL. With an average of 52 and a strike rate of 144.81, he aggregated 572 runs for Chennai Super Kings.
2010- Sachin Tendulkar
Playing for Mumbai Indians, Sachin Tendulkar thrashed 618 runs in IPL 2010. In fact, Sachin was also the captain of the team during that season. Though he was successful in taking the team to the finals but could not lift the trophy. He ended the season with 618 runs with an average of 47.53 and a strike rate of 132.61.

2011- Chris Gayle
The list would have been simply incomplete if Chris Gayle wasn't mentioned in it. He is undoubtedly one of the most destructive T20 players and he proved the same in IPL 2011. With a striking strike rate of 183.13, he smashed 2 centuries and 3 half-centuries to score 608 runs in 12 matches. Surprisingly, his strike rate is the highest of all the orange cap winners in IPL history.
2012- Chris Gayle
Whoever named Chris Gayle "Gayle Storm" is absolutely correct. The storm that he showed in in IPL 2012 was entertaining for everyone but not the bowlers in front. Playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Orange Cap winner of IPL 2012 hit 733 runs with an average of 61.08 and a strike rate of 160.74

2013- Michael Hussey
The highest run-getter of IPL 2013 is Michael Hussey of Chennai Super Kings. The Australian batter scored 733 runs in 17 matches with an average of 52.5 and a strike rate of 129.5. His performance was one of the key reasons for CSK entering into the finals but they could not lift the trophy.
2014- Robin Uthappa

Kolkata Knight Riders lifted the IPL trophy for the second time in 2014 and one of the most important people behind the success was Robin Uthappa. He featured in 16 matches and smashed 660 runs with an average of 44 and a strike rate of 137.78. He was one of the most influential and impactful players of that season.
2015- David Warner
Playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, David Warner was the Orange Cap winner of IPL 2015. With 7 half-centuries, he scored 562 runs in 14 matches and became the highest run-getter of that season. He hit 562 runs with an average of 43.23 and a strike rate of 156.54.
2016- Virat Kohli

2016 was certainly the year of Virat Kohli. From becoming the highest run-scorer in a season in the history of IPL to taking the team to the finals, 2016 IPL was a good year for Virat Kohli and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Playing in 16 matches, he hit 4 tons and 7 half-centuries to score 973 runs. With an average of 81.08 and a strike rate of 152.03, he showed his best performance in that season.
2017- David Warner
David Warner made 2017 to his name and scored 641 runs in IPL 2017 to become the Orange Cap winner. He scored 1 ton and 4 half-centuries in 14 matches with an average of 58.27 and a strike rate of 141.81 to score these runs.
2018- Kane Williamson

Kane Williamson utilized the 2018 IPL in the best possible way and changed people's perception about his T20 career. He scored 735 runs that season in only 17 matches. During the season he also smashed 8 half-centuries and aggregated the total runs with an average of 52.5 and a strike rate of 142.4.
2019- David Warner
David Warner became the only cricketer in the history of IPL to win the Orange Cap thrice in 2019. Once again, he became the highest run-getter in an IPL season after scoring 692 runs in only 12 matches. While playing with an average of 69.2 and a strike rate of 143.86, he smashed 692 runs including 1 century and 8 half-centuries.
2020- KL Rahul

KL Rahul of Punjab Kings won the title of the Orange Cap in IPL 2020. The former captain of the team might have failed to lead the team on some great results, but his individual performance was top notch. With an average of 55.83 and a strike rate of 129.34, he scored 670 runs including 1 century and 5 half-centuries.
2021- Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad of Chennai Super Kings is the defending highest run-scorer. The CSK opener scored 635 runs in 16 matches including 4 half-centuries and 1 century with an average of 45.35 and a strike rate of 136.26.
