There have been so many reports and news that Sourav Ganguly wanted to send Virat Kohli a show-cause notice before the Indian tour of South Africa. The reports stated that he wanted to send a notice to Kohli after he commented on the news of his removal as the ODI captain. The BCCI President termed all these claims as "not true". ANI contacted Ganguly to comment on this matter and there Ganguly said "This is not true".

Virat Kohli announced the news of stepping down as the T20I captain last year. Afterward, he was removed from the ODI captaincy as well as the selectors wanted only one captain for the limited-overs. After Kohli's removal from the ODI captaincy, BCCI President told that he talked with Virat about the changes. He also added that he requested Kohli to not step down as the T20 captain.
On the other hand, Kohli contradicted Sourav Ganguly in a press conference ahead of the South Africa series and said that no one asked him to leave the T20I captaincy. The former captain also mentioned that the communication regarding the ODI captaincy could have been better.

Just a few days ago Virat Kohli stepped down as the Test captain. Ganguly said that the stepping down decision was a "personal one" of Virat and he respects it. The BCCI President also tweeted, "Under Virat's leadership, Indian cricket has made rapid strides in all formats of the game ..his decision is a personal one and BCCI respects it immensely ..he will be an important member to take this team to newer heights in the future. A great player. well done ..@BCCI @imVkohli".
