The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has organized several cricket tournaments every year and Vijay Hazare Trophy is one of them. Vijay Hazare is a 50-overs format tournament in which a total of 38 teams participates every year. Meanwhile, this tournament is a tribute to former Indian cricketer Vijay Hazare, who played, 30 Tests for India during the 1950s.

Many batsmen have scored lots of runs during each season of the tournament. However, many of them have also registered some brilliant records. Maharashtra batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad equalized the record of Kohli, Shaw, and Devdutt (most tons in a single season) as he scored his 4th hundred in the ongoing VHT tournament. In this article, we will find out those players who have smashed the most hundreds in a single season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

N. Jagadeesan | Tamil Nadu | 5 Hundreds

2022-23 season was a dream season for Tamil Nadu's Narayan Jagadeesan. He broke as many as three records in Indian domestic cricket this season. Jagadeesan scored 830 runs with a batting average of 138.33 and scored consecutive 5 tons in the 2022-23 season. All of them were records for the Vijay Hazare trophy. Moreover, scored 277 against Uttar Pradesh to break the record for the highest LIST-A run in a single season. With that, he also became the first player to score 5 centuries in a single season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Virat Kohli | Delhi | 4 hundreds

Virat Kohli stood out as the leading run-getter in the 2008-09 Vijay Hazare Trophy with 534 runs. He smashed those 534 runs across seven innings at an impressive batting average of 89 with the help of a record number of four centuries. Virat Kohli's four centuries in this tournament were the most number of hundreds scored by any player in a single edition of the tournament. However, currently, Kohli is holding this record along with Shaw, Padikal, and the newly joined Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Kohli's first ton was 102 from 113 balls against Jammu & Kashmir where the Delhi team won by 112 runs. In the following match against Punjab, the Delhi batsman smashed an unbeaten 119 from only 110 balls by putting on an unbeaten 124-run stand with Rajat Bhatia for the 4th wicket.

Virat's highest score of the season was 124 which came in only 82 balls against the Haryana team with 9 fours and 7 sixes. Delhi finished with 364/6 on the board with help of Kohli's ton while Haryana was bowled out for only 225. Kohli's 4th and last ton of the season was 114 from 93 balls against Railways. Kohli helped Delhi to chase down a target of around 300 with his crucial knock during the chase.

Devdutt Padikkal | Karnataka | 4 hundreds

Karnataka batsman Devdutt Padikkal stunned the cricket world when he smashed 4 centuries during the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2020-21 season. He has become the only second player after Kohli to slam four tons in a Vijay Hazare Trophy season, and the first with four consecutive hundreds. Meanwhile, Shaw and Gaikwad joined this elite list of most hundreds in a single season.

Padikkal scored 152 runs against Odisha after he smashed UP & Bihar for two half-centuries. However, after Odisha, Padikal again registered an unbeaten 126 runs against Kerala and helps his team to victory. His third consecutive hundred came against Railways. He has scored an unbeaten 145 runs against the Railways to register his 3rd ton in the season. Meanwhile, his fourth consecutive hundred came against a strong Kerala side. Against Kerala, he scored his last hundred of the season smashing 101 runs and became the only second player after Indian skipper Kohli to register 4 tons in a single season of Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Prithvi Shaw | Mumbai | 4 hundreds

Mumbai skipper and opener Prithvi Shaw became the third batsman to register 4 hundred in a single season of Vijay Hazare Trophy when he smashed 4 tons in the VHT 2020-21 season. Meanwhile, Shaw became the first batsman to score over 800 runs in a single season of Vijay Hazare. He surprises Paddikal (737 runs) and Mayank (723 runs) to become the batsman to hit the most runs in a single season.

Shaw broke Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli's record of the highest individual score by an Indian batsman in a List A chase. Shaw achieved the feat when he hammered an unbeaten 185 off 123 balls against Saurashtra. Moreover, Shaw scored his 4th hundred in the semi-final match against Kerala. Shaw smashed 165 runs to drive Mumbai into the finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2020-21.

In the finals, Shaw scored 73 runs to become the only player to cross 800 runs in a single season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. However, with 4 hundreds in the 2020-21 season, Shaw was the third player with 4 hundreds in a single season of VHT and joins the elite list of Kohli and Padikkal.

Ruturaj Gaikwad | Maharashtra | 4 hundreds

Maharashtra captain Ruturaj Gaikwad became the fourth player after the likes of Kohli, Paddikal, and Shaw to smash 4 hundreds in a single season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Ruturaj scored 603 runs with an average of over 150 in the Vijay Hazare 2021-22 season. Not only that his dream run continued in the next season with 4 centuries and 660 runs in just 5 matches for Maharasthra. He scored centuries in all three knockout matches and converted one of them into double tons.

Gaikwad scored his first hundred in the very first game against Madhya Pradesh, where he scored 136 runs. The Maharashtra captain's second ton came against Chattisgarh as he scored an unbeaten 154 runs to help his team chase down the target. The third one came against Kerala and this was Gaikwad's 3rd consecutive hundred in the season. Gaikwad scored 124 runs against Kerala to register his 3rd ton in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Although, Ruturaj misses his 4th consecutive hundred when he falls for 21 against Uttarakhand. But again smashed a ton against Chandigarh. Ruturaj scored his career-best score of 168 runs before his dismissal. Meanwhile, he became the fourth batsman to score 4 hundreds in a single season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

In 2022-23 season, Gaikwad scored his first ton against Railways. Then went on to score the other three tons in the knockout stages of the tournament. In the quarter-final, he scored his first List-A double ton against UP. In the semi-final against Assam, he scored 168 and in the final scored 125 against Saurashtra.

Many players have registered 3 hundreds in a single season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. But, there is only these four players who have registered 4 tons in a single season. However, in the future, we will find some more players on this list.
