The Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24 game between Perth Scorchers' and Melbourne Renegades was abandoned due to unsafe pitch conditions after the ball started bouncing significantly from a length.
The rain prior to the day of the game had left the pitch damped. The upmires before starting the match thought it would get better. But, soon they realised that it was "probably too dangerous" to play. Will Sutherland's fifth ball of the seventh over, suddenly bounced significantly from a full length and wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock had to cover his face in shock after gathering the ball high in the air in BBL 2023-24.
"It's just bouncing ridiculously," said former Australian captain Aaron Finch. "If that's on line at someone's body or their head then there could be real issues." The upmire then discussed and suspended the play.
"When we initially started, we saw the pitch, we had a good look at it, but until you start playing on it, sometimes these things don't present themselves. After the first few overs, we were quite hopeful that it was going OK, but then it just started to go south and then that last one was enough for us to think it was dangerous," said upmire Ben Treloar.
Due to the weather Australian cricket has hit in the last few days. Brisbane Heat vs Adelaide Strikers was washed out due to the rain. The last day of Pakistan's warm up test against the President XI was not possible due to rain as well.
