It is quite hard to believe that the Indian Premier League started only 13 years back. IPL received immense success and popularity within just a few years of its arrival and also established itself as the biggest and most successful cricketing franchise tournament globally. With every passing day, the business, the broadcasting deals are skyrocketing as well. There are some rumors and indications that the tender for the 5 year period from 2023 to 2027, the IPL broadcast rights will reaching to some stratospheric extents.

According to various reports, the BCCI will release IPL broadcast rights by the end of 2021 or early 2022. The competition is definitely high and very intense. It got more intensified with the entry of new competitors Viacom 18 and Amazon. Also, two new teams will be included with the 8 existing franchises.
According to some industry watchers, Star India earned approximately an estimate of Rs 2500 crore in IPL 2018 from advertisements and subscriptions across both digital and television. The estimated value is going to double in IPL 2021 to Rs 5200-5300. Also, Star is expecting to invest more than Rs 16000 crore but they might end with a small margin of profit.
An estimation has been made about the value of the next five-year cycle of IPL which is approximately between Rs 24,000 crore to Rs 40,000. This whole estimation is also dependent on the bidding process. Some experts feel that the main contenders for the IPL broadcast rights are Star India, Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI), Amazon, and Viacom 18 (with the backing of Reliance).

We know that teams are increasing from 8 to 10, BCCI needs to come up with properly scheduled matches. With the increase in teams, the number of matches will increase as well. Due to this reason, many feel that this can be the cause behind the success or failure of IPL. It is 100% sure that BCCI will earn a lot more because of the increased number of matches, but the broadcasters fear that it may lead to viewer fatigue and a decrease in viewership.
