The 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup will be the 13th edition of the Cricket World Cup. The tournament will be hosted by India, beginning on 5 October and concluding on 19 November 2023. Ten national teams will participate; Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. England are the defending champions, having won the 2019 edition by defeating New Zealand in the final.
India will host the Men's Cricket World Cup solely for the first time. The tournament will take place in ten different stadiums. The first and second semi-finals will be held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and Eden Gardens in Kolkata respectively, while the final will take place at Narendra Modi Stadium, in Ahmedabad. Scoring a century on a World Cup debut is an achievement in itself. A batsman can put their name in the World Cup records books for this achievement. Aaron Finch became the 14th batsman to score a century on his World Cup debut when he scored 135 runs against England in the second match of the 2015 World Cup.

England's Dennis Amiss was the first player to score a century in his debut in the biggest stage of Cricket. He achieved that feat in the first match of the very first World Cup in 1975 against India at Lord's Ground. Since then, apart from the 1979 and the 1999 editions, the world has seen one or two players scoring a ton on their debut.
The most number of centuries on debut came in the 2003 edition. 3 batsmen scored centuries on World Cup debut in the 2003 ODI World Cup. South Africa's Gary Kirsten holds the record for the highest score on a World Cup debut. He played an unbeaten inning of 188 runs against UAE in the 1996 World Cup. India has Virat Kohli on the list. He achieved that feat in the 2011 edition against Bangladesh in the tournament opener. Andy Flower was also on his ODI debut. He was the only player to score a debut ODI and World Cup century in the same match.
